Re: Defensive Coordinator
I can completely understand the wait if we are hiring Glenn Schumann. He has had his hands full for the last 1.5 months.

Can we all take a deep breath and give the disaster scenarios a rest?
When it happens, it happens.
When it happens, it happens.

Re: Defensive Coordinator
They are. But alas, there will be some that want to be negative about it.
And for those of you that are going to say, “that’s the best we could do?” Please bring your suggestions to the table as to who you would have hired. That of course would mean that you will have knowledge that the person was interviewed and not offered.

Re: Defensive Coordinator
After that first TD, especially if it is the first drive welcome to the rock gift....there will be calls to fire the DC before halftime

Re: Defensive Coordinator
To be fair, Roof deserved it for the first couple of weeks. He implement a defense all spring. Ran it all fall camp. Come Thursday before opening game, he changes it and expects players to pick it up in 2 days after running something different for 2ish months.
He changed the gameplan on Thursday for every game until UNC when Drink told him he had to stop doing that and put him in the booth.

We forget about Woody. That dude came from 1AA and did a great job. Would love to have someone like him again

Re: Defensive Coordinator
Ted Roof is a good man , and a good coach. I didn't know NW as well but he did a good job as well with a lot of help from a high scoring , time chewing offense. .We have our new DC , I hope he is the best yet.

Re: Defensive Coordinator
There was also some real dissention going on in the locker room at the time. Once everyone "got on the same page" it all seemed to work. Good lockerroom leadership helped at that timeAppStateNews wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:27 pmTo be fair, Roof deserved it for the first couple of weeks. He implement a defense all spring. Re: Defensive Coordinator
Can we afford Schumann (or anyone at a P5 school)? He's knocking down $800k at UGa. It's frustrating enough that the P5s are getting their pick of the on-field talent, but the salaries they are paying assistants will keep ambitious young position coaches from taking coordinator jobs (or HC jobs) at non-P5 schools.

Re: Defensive Coordinator
It wasn't the first 2 games that made him deserve the criticism. It was installing a scheme for months and then changing it 2 days before the first game. He literally put his players in a position they couldn't succeed.JMappfan5 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 7:18 amNobody deserves to be fired after 2 games!AppStateNews wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:27 pmTo be fair, Roof deserved it for the first couple of weeks. He changed the gameplan on Thursday for every game until UNC when Drink told him he had to stop doing that and put him in the booth.
And then installing a gameplan and changing it late in the week. He simply was not comfortable calling the scheme. So, instead of admitting it, he put his players in bad spots.
All of the above is cause for losing employment. But, it was fixed when Gaspo was essentially calling the plays and Roof was put in the box.
