He was 4/6 this year..
According to Ponce, he will be better. Best QB he has ever recruited and seen in high school.
This. Ponce had the entire Burger family in tears during one of his recruiting pitches. Burger was also a large reason Ponce initially turned down the Miami job before Cristobal came back with a lot more money.

Now, Burger has to obviously put it all together, but he has the talent to bring us to new heights. And everything I've seen from a couple of the practices I've been to, he gets better every day.
Something many here seem to forget is that Burger's dad was a coach. Taylor Lamb was very much a coach on the field without the physical abilities of a guy like Burger. 6'4, 4.5 40, with an alleged cannon. If you have a guy like that who has all of the physical tools you could ever want to go along with Lambs player-coach mentality, the entire team will be elevated.

Cannot be understated enough. He's got some competition coming from McHugh who worked with Jordan Palmer in LA all year and whose parents had to have invested thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, in their son.
Oh man, I grew up and played against a kid in HS whose parents shopped him around. Played at 2 High School's in Charlotte, 1 in California (Mater Dei), a prep school, a JuCo, and ECU. His parents also made a movie about him. Needless to say, the kid sucked. Some of y'all probably know the prominent Charlotte family haha.

I'm certain Mchugh is going to be good, but don't think that's going to be the battle some think it is for next year. It'll be Burger, McBride, or Aguilar. I always get a little queasy when parents get involved to that level, but I understand it. We've got a stacked QB room though, could be anyones job.
I would agree but one example does not a trend make. Plenty of families in almost every sport known to man do this. Obviously a lot is not known about McHugh sense he spent several months with Jordan Palmer, prepping as an NFL player would for the draft. That's a little different than a kid going to Mater Dei. He also has the records at IMG to prove that he can play.

One important thing is that Barbay recruited him. I think Burger will be fine and likely has the inside lane here, but you never know when a tire is going to blow (ask Kyle Larson about Pocono).

Sorry, thought we were adding irrelevant examples here.

In North Carolina any stock car or college basketball analogy is always allowed, it is who we are.

Looks like McCall’s grades are so bad, he might have no other choices besides CCU or the NFL draft. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. Multiple schools have been interested until they got to academics.

I have not been following his story. But I will say that grades have a way of getting sorted out when high-performing athletes are involved.

If he has to take a semester or even a summer to get his transcript in order, I'm pretty sure he'd still find plenty of interest.

He is a 292 lb OL walk-on. Perhaps depth, or a project?

He was a walk on at The Turd. Glad he has a ride at App.

Well, I wonder about this. No playing time at Marsha and not on school...comes to App. St. with a scholly. Is there a story behind the story?
Hope he earns it. With his size, maybe new S&C coach can help get him to be all he can be.

He played PG ball at FUMA as did SC (as did I). Our old HC is now the AD. I’d bet there is a connection there.

He’s got three years of eligibility left so definitely adds depth.

He could have been a walk-on due to them not having a scholarship for him. I’m sure that there is a story. SC liked him. That’s good enough for me.

A lot of times kids are walk ons because of size and position. I don't know anything about this commit, but it's possible he was a walk on TE (or other position), the staff realized he had the frame to add weight, footwork, smarts, and athleticism become an o line.

NDSU has a guy like that who is expected to be a day 2 pick. Pretty sure the Eagles in the NFL have a lineman with a similar story.

He was only 220ish pounds coming out of high school. No way he's getting a scholarship at that size to play o line at a FBS school.

So, it seems he lived up to his side of the equation in terms of weight gain since he got to 290+. It seems there is more to the story. Maybe it is as simple as someone in his circle knew Clark, Marshall stacked at OLine, he doesn't like the new coach as the previous coach recruited him, etc.

Isn’t it more of a LU thing to sit in the corner and watch from the side instead of participating?
