Sounds like Drink just invested money in a recruit to make the team better. Reinvesting in your “company” is the way companies succeed. Happens all the time in life. Still, Drink produced the best team we’ve ever had.
No, he invested somebody else's money to make himself look better -- not the program. Literally every other D1 recruiter in the country knew it wasn't worth recruiting the kid. How else would you explain a 4 star QB have zero offers?

Drink coached the best team we've ever had. Drink did not produce it. Only one of his recruits played that year.

Amen!

I’ve said it since the minute he left. “I don’t blame him for getting paid, but Coach Satt set him and his family up for life. He owes Scott the biggest Christmas present every year, for the rest of his life.

Oh how nice it would be to win the lottery of life haha. On a similar but different note... When we bring in guys for OV, do we pay for their travels? We had a QB from a JUCO in CA last weekend which seems like an expensive visit.
Yes. We pay for the expenses for an Official Visit. Just one of the reasons we try not to schedule OV's during the season. If you're paying for someone to come to Boone you want to have to time available to spend with them and their families. The recruits rarely come on OV's alone.

According to Ponce, he will be better. Best QB he has ever recruited and seen in high school.

This. Ponce had the entire Burger family in tears during one of his recruiting pitches. Burger was also a large reason Ponce initially turned down the Miami job before Cristobal came back with a lot more money.

Now, Burger has to obviously put it all together, but he has the talent to bring us to new heights. And everything I've seen from a couple of the practices I've been to, he gets better every day.

Hope you are right, because it'll take an outstanding QB with good surrounding cast to win in and a great surrounding cast to win the title in the Sun Belt as we saw the portal show us surprising teams turnarounds from the previous season. I don't want our program to suffer from attempting to develop a QB if we can get a plug and play ready to make a difference. Of course it is the most important position on the field.

QBs have to develop somewhere and if we are being realistic the 2023 App team will likely will be a lot like the 2022 team. There will be many familiar faces and lots of talent but no returnimg super stars.

We will need to be patient with Burger and let the young man get used to the game. We've been incredibly lucky with QBs for the past 8 years and it's not unrealistic for Burger or any young QB to not come out the gate knowing it all.

Exactly. Essentially the carolina panthers right now. No matter what qb we "sign in free agency", the roster just isnt their yet to win big. Play Burger, let him develop, all while the roster improves and develops around him. And hopefully the coaching improves too.

It is December 16th and the transfer portal can fill defensive holes. Our offense was good enough to win 10 games last year.

Why did the JUCO OL decommit from us a week or so after committing? Is there someone/something happening behind the scenes? Still holding out hope for Cooper or Luke to come back.

I'm really excited for what the offense could look like in 2024. Burger, Noel, Marshall, Kanye, Robinson, Stroman & all that OL talent

The defense needs some pop, hopefully the new DC and SC can get that going.

That seems like kind of the opposite of the Panthers, who have a lot of defensive talent and (prior to trading CMC) some good offensive skill players, but just can't stop signing mediocre-to-bad QBs.

Cooper definitely won’t be back. I highly doubt luke either. My guess would be NIL,
“Bigger school” offer, and I’m sure not having a position coach don’t help

Luke is in the transfer portal. I wouldn't say definitely about Cooper.

This is a message board for fans. I get that and understand that there is a desire to get answers to questions like, “Why did player X decommit?” Or “How did player Y get injured?”

I think that it’s important to remember that these kids/young men are people first. The answers to questions that fans want may be embarrassing or personal to the person and his loved ones. If reasons aren’t made public, ask yourselves if you would want your loved one’s situation aired out on a message board. I get that we have private boards and walls, but once the genie is out of the bottle, it can’t go back in.

The hell of that there are many posts this last month saying that if '23 is like '22 and that's the end of the road for SC. Have we switched gears to kicking the can down the road further and saying it's ok for our conference brethren to pull another train on APP again for another few seasons til we are developed? I'll take y'alls word on Burgers talent and potential, I'd think SC is going to try to save his job.
