It was not the main problem but coaching could have been a little better. We were not a 6-6 talent team. If we really are then Texas State out recruited us and that is a coaches problem if we can’t get better players than that.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 5:38 pmThe offense ultimley wasn't the problem. The problem was that the defense had a massive talent gap along with quite a few injuries during the season. Depth on D was very evident as well. I will say IMO the Dline played better towards the end but still needs a better pass rush to help on the backend.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 5:30 pmWhich is why as the season ran on those who said we didn’t have the talent just don’t know because we had the talent. All of our issues went to off field stuff and coaching. I figured we would either lose Wade or Barbay and I’m glad we keep Barbay. I wish Wade the very best at GT though.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 5:02 pm2022 App State Offense Rankings Stats per ESPN.com
Total offense #25 - 455 total yards per game, 255 passing yards per game, 204 rushing yards per game.
Rushing offense ranked #22 at 204 yards per game and 27 TD's (plus Peoples and Noel missed games)
Before you pass judgement check the facts.....that OL helped score 60 points on UNC and man handled Texas A & M.
That teams issues were deeper than the OL coach. Clark wasn't going to let the guy go he just hired.

Re: Geep Wade to GaTech
First few games of the year were exciting as the offense looked dangerous and creative. After that things seemed to tighten up and back to the old run first and hold onto a small lead formula. Glad Barbay stayed and I look forward to he and Clark figuring it out together. O line had good and bad moments. Who of us haven't? Looking forward to getting our killer instinct back and climbing back to the top next year. Good luck Geep!

Key takeaways was we must recruit better and really more about the process of building relationships with HS coaches. You can’t expect to some up at a HS that you haven’t visited in eight years and get the red carpet treatment and get a recommendation on a prospect.
He mentioned getting beat physically starting back with ULL a couple years ago and it continuing.
Our WRs don’t get great separation on mid-ranged passes.
The most telling line was the play calling was very inventive and lots of formations the first 3-4 weeks and then it looked like a former offensive lineman starting calling plays and formations.
He’s also very funny and has a great delivery even when discussing news that isn’t easy to hear.

Interesting that those are my same observations. I could have said exactly what Browny said. But because i have never “coached” football my opinion seems to be disregarded by some on this site. Nice that someone that is well respected from our program and played has confirmed my exact thoughts. I should sleep better tonight knowing that but that doesn’t matter, I just want it fixed so our program will be an elite G5 program.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 7:26 pmKey takeaways was we must recruit better and really more about the process of building relationships with HS coaches. Stop saying our Oline is great. We see what we see over last few years. Browny is saying exactly what we have witnessed and said.

Agree on the comments. I good friend of mine is in the NC recruiting circle. He told me that App does their recruiting very different than other schools and it can leave a negative vibe with a potential recruit. He would not elaborate - however the comment on building better relationships with HS coaches seems to be an issue.

Ok you don't think our offensive line was any good. I haven't watched the replays of all the games so I'm not going to comment as to whether you are right or not. My question is then how do we have 2 first team and one third team All Sunbelt offensive lineman? There are at least 70 possibles for that honor. And many of those who vote talk to coaches for their suggestions. These are our opponents who vote our guys to this honor. The biggest problem I had was the play calling not the players

Re: Geep Wade to GaTech
I would love to hear more (don't need to though, just curious). It could very well be that we don't coddle the recruits and tell them lies about PT and such. Our attitude has always seemed to be that players come to App because they want to come to App and win, not because they want to be a star. Relationships with coaches, however, are important and should be the focus of our staff, especially the HC.Yosef1986 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 8:45 pmAgree on the comments. I’m impressed he was able to parley this past season into a P5 gig. I’ll be happy to admit I’m wrong at the end of next season, but I bet he’s not a Georgia Tech in 2024

Re: Geep Wade to GaTech
Like Shawn, the GT HC is a former OL coach. Given that, he's probably familiar with Wade. My understanding is that Tech hasn't hired an OC yet so that would seem to indicate that they wanted him regardless.

The legacy of the Bulls and App’s history of dominance at the position since the transition has to play a factor in other folks opinion of our OL. One of the guys on the CBS CFB (Cover 3) pod has said on multiple occasions that our line is regarded in its own tier compared to the rest of the conference by our opponents.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 9:05 pmOk you don't think our offensive line was any good. The talent of some of our linemen exceed their production as a unit this year. Kinda the opposite with Southern, who didn’t receive the nominations that we did, but was the best pass blocking unit in the country. Their QB was untouched.

At the end of the day, stats are stats and production is production. Stink was very much aided by an offensive philosophy of ball out of QB hands pretty freaking quick
We're their occasions he held onto ball for more than a few seconds, yes...but most of time , ball was out quick
