After 6 games, I think we know what we have and who we are. This is definitely a rebuilding year. We lack the physicality and overall talent to be in the upper half of the Sun Belt. Seasons like this one makes you really enjoy when we get back to the top.

Re: TX St discussion
One thing I noticed during the game last night - those Texas State kids had dog in them.
They were energetic, they were yapping at our guys after every big play, and they clearly got under our skin because we had an obscene number of personal foul calls.
It was mildly comical to see our guys chirping back, down 24-0.
Just my perception but we looked like a bunch of social media influencers getting our ass whooped by some junkyard dogs.

I can think of 2, maybe 3 instances in my 25 years of really watching App football (outside of the FCS matchups when we were really outmanned)
Give 'em hell!

Re: TX St discussion
One of the things that made me laugh last night was our defensive back...not sure which one....may have been more than one, would wave his arms signaling an incomplete pass like he had saved the day. The score was 24-0 and the receiver misses a pass and our defensive backs acting like they had done something. This would piss me off if I was the coach. Do your job and get back to the line of scrimmage....ESPECIALLY when you are having your AR$$E handed to you consistently.

Re: TX St discussion
So we lack the talent to be in upper half of Sun Belt but we could tack 61 on UNC and beat A&M? I am not saying we have the most talented team in the Sun Belt but lack of talent alone is not the problem. We have over a dozen seniors getting heavy looks from the NFL while Texas State has just 2. There is no way that being without Peoples is so big for us that we can't beat Texas State. I did not predict a blowout in this game because I knew we have some injuries but we got enough talent to beat Texas State. We recently blew a 25 point lead to JMU and only lost by 4 while they beat the crap out of Texas State (game was never close) and then Texas State turns around and dominates us? It is definitely more than just talent issues.
We might be thin in some areas, and I know we have some injuries, but coaching is a problem as well. On paper, we should be 14-20 points better than Texas State.

You have my sympathies! After the cheat game I made the comment that it was hard to win with fcs talent and that we would be lucky to go 5-7. I was called “leader in the clubhouse for DUMBEST POST EVER” AND ANOTHER CALLED ME STUPID. I can take it. But it sure hurts to be on the right track.

Yah they do that a lot. A product of it's all about me crap. Takes a big ego to celebrate when you are getting you ass handed to you.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 11:24 amOne of the things that made me laugh last night was our defensive back...not sure which one....may have been more than one, would wave his arms signaling an incomplete pass like he had saved the day. Watch the game against us. He missed multiple passes that would have changed the game. He also put the ball in bad spots on some completions and cost his guys a chance for big time YAC. He may end up being great but he played awful against us.

Re: TX St discussion
Do you not think that was due to our constant pressure and good cover down field?
That was the only game the defense was able to do what we want to do for some reason.

This is why I laugh when some folks on 247 and here say that we probably just aren't near as talented as we think we are. How could we beat A&M and control them if we were not talented? There are definitely issues going on here and it is more than just a talent issue, as you know.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 1:44 pmDo you not think that was due to our constant pressure and good cover down field?

Talking to an App hall of famer earlier today,a guy who sees a different game than the one I watch, "talent is not the issue".He laid it on lack of discipline and effort."The mental side of it".

We are Not as talented as many claimed we were. That is just a fact. There may be other issues but to discount the lack of talent is just ridiculous.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 1:53 pmThis is why I laugh when some folks on 247 and here say that we probably just aren't near as talented as we think we are. Re: TX St discussion
I never claimed we were the most talented team. I have said numerous times that I expected 9-3, best case, and most likely 8-4 this year. I was expecting a couple losses in November and the 2 P5 games but if we are talented enough to beat A&M then we can't say lack of talent is why we lost to Texas State. There was no excuse for us to lose to Texas State unless something beyond talent is going on behind the scenes.bcoach wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 2:36 pmWe are Not as talented as many claimed we were. As for the talent, 99 is the only one I 100% believe in on the DL right now and we have issues at safety for sure. I do think the OL has not looked as good is because we probably have injuries that are being played through. The WRs have had some inconsistent play at times but we got a couple good ones led by Stroman.
I really want us to play Burger at some point to see what we have in him. If he is not really good then 8-4 might be our ceiling in 2023 though.

Re: TX St discussion
I’m not saying we didn’t do anything good in that game but the A&M QB missed some absolutely wide open receivers. Watch it again.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 1:44 pmDo you not think that was due to our constant pressure and good cover down field?
