IMO, their schedule is favorable to run the table. They host Marshall and Coastal this year and only play Texas St and Ark St from the west. Satterfield should be concerned on Nov 5 as well as the Cards host JMU. During the first half yesterday I was thinking they only looked ok and that they might stumble a bit in their first fbs season. After their adjustments and the way they manhandled us in the second half, my tune changed. JMU has the horses and definitely the coach to win all of their games this year in the belt. Maybe they’ll be like southern and win their first year in fbs (although ineligible for the title) and then fall into relative mediocrity, although it’s doubtful considering their resources.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 10:51 amI wouldn’t rank them yet but it does look better and they should pick up some votes. If they respond well and not have a letdown after their win over us then I would rank them. Teams who pull upsets often lose the following week. I would fully expect them to crack the top 25 if they get to 5-0.

Re: Poll watch
No G5 is ranked in the Coaches Poll but JMU is the second ranked G5 at 34. Only Cincy (26) is a head of them. The only other G5 getting votes is Coastal.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 10:51 amI wouldn’t rank them yet but it does look better and they should pick up some votes. Re: Poll watch
Like I said, they would pick up votes but not be ranked. I follow the polls as well but I don't start the threads. I just follow to be aware of how they trend and see who the media thinks are going to be the playoffs contenders but I also know the CFP is all the really matters for the team. Now the rankings we see today matter for program marketing but no reason for us to worry. If we win out we will get back in there but if we lose a couple more games we will never sniff the polls and we won't deserve to. I do question the votes of Coastal but they are 4-0 and have a name now from the last couple years so I expected them to pick up some.hapapp wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 12:34 pmNo G5 is ranked in the Coaches Poll but JMU is the second ranked G5 at 34. Re: Poll watch
I'm not totally shocked. I would bet money that JMU and CCU both will get votes in the AP poll if they get to at least 6-0. I would personally not have voted for either yet but I can see why some would.

Re: Poll watch
We need to be on the Bottom 10 watch this week. That will add about as much insult to the injury as possible. I haven't felt so disappointed in a long long time with our Mountaineers. Sure hope they rebound.

Re: Poll watch
No one said you had to look at them. One can view them objectively without reference to how it applies to App. I can assure you anyone who looks at the polls isn't looking to see where we are ranked.

Re: Poll watch
One thing I am grateful for is that we weren’t in the top 25. I kept seeing the Miami MTSU score scroll across the bottom and thought we were lucky to not have to endure that.

Re: Poll watch
I have a serious question about this. Don't you have to actually be ranked to qualify for the access bowl?

Re: Poll watch
Surprisingly for the G5 autobid, you do not. You absolutely must be the conference champion of a G5 conference, but ranking not required. But it does come with some more explanation.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 5:05 pmI have a serious question about this. Don't you have to actually be ranked to qualify for the access bowl?
The G5 autobid is guaranteed for the highest ranked G5 conference champion. So normally it's straightforward and you look at the winners of the AAC, CUSA, MAC, MWC, and SBC. Whichever of these 5 teams (or 6 in the COVID year special where the SBC had to cancel the CCG) is the highest ranked team goes to the NY6.
On the extremely rare chance that none of the 5 champs are ranked, the CFP commitee will meet and privately keep ranking teams beyond 25 until they hit the first G5 conference champ. They won't actually release the extra rankings beyond 25 but will share the decision on which G5 team is the highest ranked. This autobid can't be forfeited to the P5 in any way. Similar to if the Orange bowl is a non-semifinal game and Clemson is in the playoffs but no other ACC team is ranked, the Orange bowl still takes an ACC team because that's the terms of their contract with the conference.

Re: Poll watch
JMU is currently favored in all but one of their remaining games. They probably will lose to Texas State Saturday but wouldn't it be something if they finished undefeated and ranked 12th.And no Bowl game.

I will not be surprised when JMU get rolled, more than once, we played a miserable 2 QTRS of “football”. That does not make them the best team in the Sun Belt.

Re: Poll watch
This weeks AP poll has Cincinnati at 24 and so far the highest ranked G5. Expect they will win the AAC, be the highest ranked G5 in the CFP rankings, and head for Dallas on January 2nd.
