What is a Frist Down?

I did not even catch that at frist, and had to look around to see what you were referring to, until I realized it was the thread title.

I’m really surprised they haven’t come out with a laser system to check for first downs. I guess getting that perfect 90 degree angle could be an issue.

Put a military grade GPS in the ball and a laser sight is not needed. A garage door safety light would get the job done.

It would still have to align perpendicularly to the field, otherwise it could be angled in such a way that the “frist” down is given/not given. Again, easy fix (another laser that runs parallel to the sideline for alignment. But I’d still be concerned that it would get out of whack and require a backup set of chains.
