Prayers for those injured on Miiler Hill

Unread post by asu66 » Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:27 pm

As the game ended, many fans stormed down Miller Hill in the delight of the moment. Apparently some fans sustained injuries and were transported to Watauga's Med Center (no idea of numbers or seriousness of injuries). Sad ending of an otherwise amazing day.

Prayers for those who were caught up in the frenzy and for their care and well-being.

Indeed. Several ambulances raced up Stadium Dr. as we were walking down the hill. Prayers for all.

Please get rid of the hill as soon as we can expand again.

Someone always makes a fire Marshall reference when we have capacity crowds but the school apparently has no problem cramming people onto that hill where there is no real way in or out. My son was there today but had left before the end. Now I'm glad he did

Hill really needs seats. A hill is fine when you periodically have a couple hundred people wanting to hang out there. It's not okay with 15,000.

my daughter read a tweet that no serious injuries occurred but some busted lips and twisted ankles from jumping off the wall and i assume over the fence.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

At least two sections of the fence at the bottom of the hill were broken. I thought I saw a security guard getting oxygen near the Troy tunnel.

Props to the Troy training staff for attending to the injured until paramedics arrived.

I heard from someone on the sideline that at least one person was trampled and another had a compound leg fracture. Afraid this one wasn’t a few bloody lips and twisted ankles.

If they don't start taking care of these types of things better, there are going to be lawsuits for not following legal standards. The fire marshall will be the least of their concerns. I hate that it could come to that, but the admin has to get this under control.

I know I've raised the question many times. How can a stadium with like 26k (or so) seats allow up to 41k in the place? Seems like chasing that $$$ can lead to potential problems- some serious

I hope all that were injured are ok and heal quickly. That being said, when the students on the hill rush the field in a fashion that literally breaks the metal fence barrier there is very little that anyone can do to prevent this type of thing. Too many people trying to get into too small of a space. It is like crowds in big concerts, people always get hurt.

Yes there were very serious injuries. A few folks lives were changed for bad today during the celebration. I heard the same from someone on the sideline.

Doing a quick search I've seen early reports saying multiple traumatic injuries to now saying no life threatening injuries. Sounds like probably broken bones?

Not good but it sounds like early reports were being blown away out of proportion.

I hope for a speedy recovery for all of those injured, and while I am not trying to dismiss this as not a big deal, but this type of thing has happened in the past for other field/court storms in sports. Doesn't make it any better, and again I hope those injured recover, but I don't think it puts a bad name on the school.

Does anyone have more info? While this is really bad, it’s something that needs a solution and is unavoidable in these situations with the current setup.

Heard someone got impaled on the fence. No idea how they're doing.
