Looks like a guy that will see playing time for us. From surface level this looks like a great addition.

Re: Football Transfers
Moose,
Will Keith be a candidate to start or do we expect him to be a backup? I'm guessing all these portal additions are for depth only because of misses at DB, QB, and WR so we need the bodies?
Also, any idea how many scholarships we plan to use on high school players in 2023? I"m hopeful we can sign more than 16 or so this time around. I am 90% certain at least 3 players won't want to use their super senior year in Hodges, Peoples, and Hampton.

Re: Football Transfers
Agree. People that think NIL and this open transfer portal is good are crazy. You in essence have guys who didn’t get the offer they thought they deserved in high school and “settled “ for where they went. They haven’t gotten that immediate playing time so instead of earning it they take what appears to be a better offer. I would love to see a stat showing the amount of increased PT by players who transfer. We had a couple come in who barely saw the field.dtrain4prez wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 5:31 pmWhat a joke....this transfer portal crap is going to ruin college football.firemoose wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 5:00 pmRobinson has backed out of his commitment and is committing to Kentucky.firemoose wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 5:21 pmTRANSFER:

Re: Football Transfers
This smells of an NIL deal to me, perhaps not a large one but I bet there is some level of NIL to this.

Re: Football Transfers
Pretty sure that you are eligible to transfer once without sitting as an undergrad. After that, you would have to sit.

Re: Football Transfers
About 40% of players who enter the portal don’t find a home. They thought they’d get a bigger better deal. What they get is a bus ticket home.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 5:53 pmAgree. Re: Football Transfers
I beg to differ. Did you see where the Kansas State basketball player got a $800,000 NIL deal AND a car to transfer to Miami? How is that possibly good for smaller schools like App?EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 8:59 pmCounterpoint: No it isn't.dtrain4prez wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 5:31 pmWhat a joke....this transfer portal crap is going to ruin college football.firemoose wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 5:00 pmRobinson has backed out of his commitment and is committing to Kentucky.firemoose wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 5:21 pmTRANSFER:

Re: Football Transfers
I guess that the whole NIL deal is no different than a “game geek” student making money while in school playing video games but it all just seems sleazy to me. Back in the old days a school could get into all kinds of trouble if a player had a pizza purchased for him or was given some shoes but now the same guy can roll around campus in a $100k sports car and can have a fat wallet. I know that many of the top men/women who get these deals often have little to nothing growing up. I can’t help but think that the new system would be better served if this money was placed into an escrow account or something similar and once the “student athlete “ graduates or leaves the school he or she can do with it what they please.
We have had kids in our family who, while in school received grants. Perhaps this is easier said than done but why can’t these athletes who have nothing coming in from home apply for grants? Typically this is “free money “ that doesn’t have to be paid back. We funnel money to our two college kids for spending as needed but if they received a couple thousand at the beginning of a semester and were told to manage it they could easily buy gas, food, etc.

Re: Football Transfers
There's nothing wrong with players being paid. Should there be a cap? Probably but its the nature of the beast as it is right now. Also love the TP as well. Before we start arguing who's right or wrong on this subject, let's truly see the percentage of athletes that are getting NIL's. My guess would be 10-15% and again most in the P5's. As for your question about smaller schools - Super conferences are coming, the rich are going to get richer no doubt. Hope APP has a seat at the table when it does but its gonna take LOTS of money and I don't think (as of right now) people are ready to make that commitment. (Yosef club etc...).appstate5 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 6:29 amI beg to differ. Did you see where the Kansas State basketball player got a $800,000 NIL deal AND a car to transfer to Miami? Re: Football Transfers
Thoughtful take. I would suggest if you're going to cap NIL deals then you should do the same for coaches' salaries.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 7:12 amThere's nothing wrong with players being paid. Re: Football Transfers
He had not enrolled. Transfers don’t sign paperwork until they arrive on campus.
