More "Carolina Way" News
Re: More "Carolina Way" News
I think even more important to Chapel Hill is somehow preserve the "Carolina Way", whatever the hell that is, in their mind its what seperates them from the NC States, ECU, Apps of the world. It kills them to have to face the reality, they are no different from any other school. I will guarantee this, they will somehow put a spin on this and convince themselves, that the Carolina Way is alive and well, and everything eventually go back to the way it was before all this mess started. Sad, very, very sad.

The marijuana totaled 43.2 grams, above the legal cutoff of 42 grams for a felony in North Carolina, but it was split into two bags. One bag contained 41.1 grams while the second contained 2.1 grams.JCline0429 wrote:What else could we expect from a school which graduates more lawyers than any other school in NC?bcoach wrote:All charges against UNC guard P.J. Dismissed and not guilty, obviously, are two different things. If it was an ASU student vs the UNC dominated legal establishment in NC, he would probably still be trying to make bond.
Pot possession is often easy to wiggle out of, but driving without a license is a big question mark and more than a little bit suspect.
Now how is that for wiggle? Of course no mention of the gun.

Now how is that for wiggle? Of course no mention of the gun.If he had not been a UNC student athlete or a student at another school, I'd wager he wouldn't have been cut a great deal of slack. Too, how many people leave their driver's license at home nowadays? He may have not had one and simply been allowed to get one from DMV before he had to appear in court and surely he had the best UNC attorneys that money could buy but given gratis. The PTB at UNC are not going to lose even one game from one of their star athletes. In the Dean Myth era, about the worst punishment a Dean basketball player got no matter the transgression was to be taken out of the starting lineup but allowed to play 90% of the game after an early initial timeout. Happened many a time, that is if the transgression even made it to the media.
The whole thing stinks from the ground up. How familiar. Whether its NCAA sanctions of criminal charges, Tar Hole influence will get them off Scott free.

No way P.J. sees the court until at least halftime of the blue and white scrimmage. Roy is going to send a stern message.

Stern message? Oh, that's terrible, having to miss a whole half of an intra-squad scrimmage game. Pardon the sarcasm. I trust that you were being facetious.asumike83 wrote:No way P.J. sees the court until at least halftime of the blue and white scrimmage. Roy is going to send a stern message.

Split into 2 bags under the felonious limit??? Does that not constitute "intent to distribute"?

We had a basketball player cut a similar deal a couple of years ago. Got caught selling Rx pills to a undercover cop, pretrial diversion program, charges dismissed, record expunged and was never officially suspended by the team or the school.JCline0429 wrote:Not even as much as a little slap on the wrist. And yes I am still pissed off about how App State handled the situation.

No, if they had little baggies it would, but since it was in one bag, it''s not a felony.moonshine wrote:Split into 2 bags under the felonious limit??? Does that not constitute "intent to distribute"?

You are correct.....if you haven't been convicted of a drug charge before and get arrested for possession misd or felony....you get an assessment, complete drug classes, drug test negative and the charges are dropped...This goes for anyone in North Carolina...doesn't apply for possession with intent to sell and deliver or trafficking....just simple possession only...This is what happened in PJ's case...Now as for the gun..."WE ALL KNOW THAT GUN CAME FROM THAT CAR", but it was a check point and if the police didn't see anymore throw it out or didn't come back to anyone in the car, they can't be charged...PJ and the rest can just say someone must have thrown it out.....

That is great as far as the state or local law. How about the team. Should he be playing? He did commit the crime, he just got off with a deal.

Which is a worse offense, rape or misdemeanor drug possession? When the university reversed the ruling against our two accused criminals in 2011 Jerry immediately put them back on the field. Charges were dropped against PJ, should he be held to a different standard for a lesser offense. I hate the heels and wish something would stick to them but we need to look at our own history. Two game suspension for DWI, Hillary's senior year, not sure what Price did last year but heard it was Mary Jane.bcoach wrote:That is great as far as the state or local law. How about the team. What does one have to do with the other? Are we about right and wrong or about who is more wrong. You will never hear me try and defend one of our own who breaks the law. I don't believe in the "but mommy he did it" way of looking at things. Each case stand on it's own and he committed the crime. He was not found not guilty and in fact just the opposite. If he was not guilty he would not have had to make a deal.appbio91 wrote:Which is a worse offense, rape or misdemeanor drug possession? Re: More "Carolina Way" News
What was the deal? I just saw all charges dropped. He is guilty of nothing in the eyes of the law. BTW I do agree with you in principal he is guilty but very much expect that the charges being dropped gives Roy the cover he needs. I am sure he will get something like a couple game suspension in the pre-season but don't expect much more unless something else comes out about his ties to the guy who was providing the fancy rental cars. IMO there is something stinky going on there.bcoach wrote:What does one have to do with the other? Are we about right and wrong or about who is more wrong. He had to go through a drug rehab and some other things I don't remember. It was not simply dropping the charges it was a deal struck to drop them.appbio91 wrote:What was the deal? Some even said I"wanted" bad things to happen to ASU.
I only said that if something ever happened at ASU would these same asu fans call our own university the same things they are calling other universities.
Of course it was never answered by those fans.
Universities are not much different from each other.
Things can happen that we fans can't control. If an athlete does something wrong and needs to be removed then do it....
Yes, unc has screwed up and should be punished big time, but I won't cast the first stone because it may come back and hit me. I'll let the governing bodies that know more than I do deal with it.
