Former App Assistant Stu Holt left Louisville for Va Tech, thus opening the TE position coach.appstate24 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 10:08 amUghhh, to do what? Coach tight ends? They already have an OL coach.

That is what I would look for. A good coach who is creative and will adapt to personnel. Give me that over some specialized coach with an ego who claims he has to have a certain personnel. A good coach can win and produce heavily with good players. There has to be a hungry coach in FCS or position coach at a G5 who is ready to take this on. We have a ton of speed and overall talent that a lot of people should be excited to work with.

Re: Ponce going to Miami
One thing is VERY obvious...anyone associated with the coaching staff for App State football is a hot commodity right now. Even former players turned coaches who we may think of as possible replacements have already been scooped up by other teams. This just shows the quality of the program and the respect it has earned. Don't be fooled that it is all about the money. As coaches they strive to be the best at what they do. Part of that is proving to themselves that they can coach at the highest level. No matter how good ASU is in football...these guys are leaving for more prestigious jobs in power conferences. They might make more money to support their growing families as well. Who could blame them?

No doubt. I think good head coaches always have a list of names or people they would go to quick for suggestions. I have no doubt we can get someone good. It will just come down to whether Clark makes the right decision. We are an attractive place for a rising coach.bcoach wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 12:33 pmJust a wild guess but Coach would probably know before we do.

Plus, we only give assistant coaches one year contracts. This encourages them to strike when the iron is hot.AppYosef! wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 3:01 pmOne thing is VERY obvious...anyone associated with the coaching staff for App State football is a hot commodity right now. Staff turnover is the world we live in, in football as well as everything else. Even Saban loses coaches every year. Coach Clark, I’m sure, has long list of possible replacements as most coaches do. Looks like he got a good one out of CM. Apps roll on!

This appears to be a good hire. I wasn’t sure exactly what MAC paid but it appears as though he is getting a slight bump. I would imagine that it’s also easier to move up from App than CMU so that has to influence it. I’m optimistic he can get a lot out of our talent.bcoach wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 8:42 pmKevin Barbay

Re: Ponce going to Miami
Since we were discussing some of the past OC's during this thread I thought I would toss in a little outside observation info for Peterson. I ran across this article regarding his performance at Illinois and it seemed strikingly similar to what many of us on this board were saying when he was here. The point is it illustrates that in two programs different observers saw many of the same "issues" with his results.
https://www.thechampaignroom.com/2022/1 ... et-bielema
"the offense often left something to be desired"
"It’d be fair to say Illinois’ offense was anemic at times"
"Despite having an experienced offensive line and a veteran QB, Petersen couldn’t get the most out of his guys."
These same type of comments were made around when he was here. Many of us wanted to discount the warts due to Covid year. But with the same trend occurring at the next stop you basically have to say it was most likely his coaching. I am looking forward to our new guy but want to always learn from our past.

Re: Ponce going to Miami
Not always about money and I'm sure there are other factors but I heard he is getting a raise to come here. CMU only paid like 150k and he is getting more than that to be our OC. For people who have kids they tend to lean towards what is better financially though and I don't blame them.bcoach wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:10 amYes as I said it is not always about money.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 12:39 pmThis appears to be a good hire. Re: Ponce going to Miami
There is nothing to win. He was only making 150k at CMU and App offered more money. Perhaps he came here for multiple reasons but I don’t think it’s crazy to assume that the money factored into it.bcoach wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:50 amOk I know it is important to you so you win.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 10:44 amNot always about money and I'm sure there are other facts but I heard he is getting a raise to come here.
