Yeah - but you, and I, would have to keep in mind that before we took those 10 shots we would have to run up and down the court for 2 hours -- fall down, get up, jump up, have someone slap us on the arms - get up and keep running --- and then shoot the 10 foul shotsbigdaddyg wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 4:23 pmI think it’s more than fair to be critical of JF for clanking 3 FT’s in that situation. I don’t believe any of us are calling him names, wanting him benched or kicked off the team but to say that was brutal is fair.
I’m old, slow and out of shape and if I tried to hit a 90 MPH fastball, shag a long fly or run the bases I’d fail. If I did anything on a football field I’d fail equally. I’d never dribble the ball up court or get a shot off against most any real basketball players but if I got to stand on the FT line with nobody guarding me and took 10 shots I’d like to think I could sink 5. If I quit working and practiced every day for a year and took 100 or more shots a day I’d like to think I could reach 70%. Now a 23 year old mid major college basketball player who does this all his life should certainly knock down 2 out of 3.

As the saying goes, "I am good once as I ever was".. translation..I can run up and down the court once or twice, jack a couple of threes..then try not go into cardiac arrest while I wait for ref to give me the ball to shoot 3 FTsWVAPPeer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 11:09 amYeah - but you, and I, would have to keep in mind that before we took those 10 shots we would have to run up and down the court for 2 hours -- fall down, get up, jump up, have someone slap us on the arms - get up and keep running --- and then shoot the 10 foul shotsbigdaddyg wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 4:23 pmI think it’s more than fair to be critical of JF for clanking 3 FT’s in that situation. Re: MBB vs Georgia Southern, Thu 2/10 6:30pm
Yeah that’s all true but as far fetched as my example might be the real obvious point I tried to make is that there really isn’t an aspect of any major sport that allows a competitor the opportunity to score a point without being thrown at, tackled or guarded. No one makes them all but any basketball player who has played competitively for most of his or her life should be able to make at least 70%. A very experienced otherwise clutch player should not brick 3 in a row in that situation. Maybe JF storms back tonight and has a huge game!WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 11:09 amYeah - but you, and I, would have to keep in mind that before we took those 10 shots we would have to run up and down the court for 2 hours -- fall down, get up, jump up, have someone slap us on the arms - get up and keep running --- and then shoot the 10 foul shotsbigdaddyg wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 4:23 pmI think it’s more than fair to be critical of JF for clanking 3 FT’s in that situation. Adrian Delph picking his hair out is messing with my head. Haha. Good start by hitting first 2 FTs. If Almonacy gets hot from 3, look out!

Terrible giving up that second half run. Had this game comfortably under control and let the floaters back in it and JF misses a lock it up free throw at the end. It’s going to be our Achilles.

Please help me understand why we let opponents roll the damn ball to half court?

Come on man, they made 3 of 4 in the last minute - even with my limited math expertise I know that is higher than 70%

We’ve won 8 of 9? Is that right? We’ve come from behind to win, we’ve lost big leads and hung on to win. Builds character and is a good test. Sure, we could do some things better, but overall we’re doing more things better than our opponents.

Last year when we played Ga State in the SB title game, a commentator quoted GS coach Rob Wilcher saying that App State checks more boxes than any team in the league. I’m starting to feel that way again….hope we can continue this momentum into March when it really matters.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 9:08 pmWe’ve won 8 of 9? Is that right? We don’t do anything fancy, but I bet teams are starting to hate playing against our pack line defense. I also noticed better ball movement, passing angles, and unselfish play tonight. We check enough boxes to get it done most nights in the belt.

Our margin for error is small but at present we are finding a way to win .Ugly , some might say.
