:P 1- Nobody plays harder than James Lewis Jr except Michael Eads Jr- they shut the beast down. 2- nice crowd. 3- we will have to take the good with the bad with Justin Forest. I guess he’s taken years off Kern’s life. 4-Huntley might be real good. 5-wish we were grooming a point guard to replace Almonacy. We will miss him. 6-Delph and Gregory are good!

Echoing what has been said before- we need the students on the side not the endzone.
This is basketball. They're called base lines.
Actually in most arenas it is called end zone seating on the seating charts. I don’t know why they don’t use baseline, but if you do it is only the front row seats.

We are in first place. It's been awhile...long way to go certainly but I'm savoring it tonight.

More than half were students. Great job by them, but unfortunately the non-student turnout was weak. We need the later start times. We had to leave Charlotte at 3:30 to get up the mountain and not everyone has that flexibility.

I think it bears repeating. Replace the Duke and Carolina games with 2 cream puffs and we are probably sitting at 15-7 overall but personally I see a completely different team now that I watched a month ago. The difference for me is a squad that has guy’s attacking the basket instead of passing the ball around the perimeter and then someone jacking up a shot with 3 seconds left on the clock.

And thanks WASU for that endzone clarification. I only consider baseline seats as on the floor right behind the line. The folks on the ends 40 rows back are in the endzone seats. No biggie

The students want to be on the baseline. There have been several meetings with the "student leaders" and that is where they want to be. It's close enough to the opposing bench, they can heckle (evidenced by the multiple middle fingers from Ark State tonight) and creates an advantage in the second half.

With the way the students have turned out this year. Give them whatever they want. Student section has been incredible this year!

Just over 3,000, I was disappointed. It was our 4th game over 3,000 for the year, but I really hoped that with the promos (pj day, CFA giveaway, $5 tickets) and all the marketing that's been going on this week that we would have been pushing that 4,000 number. Seemed like a few more fans in the non-student section than usual, but not more in the student section than what we've had recently. Not trying to diss them because they were loud and into the game and messing with Arky St, just thought we might get more last night.

Back in the old days (like the early to mid 80’s) how was the attendance at Varsity? I graduated in ‘86 and went to nearly every home game but I have no clue what the seating was and the average attendance. If memory serves we packed the place a good bit. Weren’t the seats on the end (mainly at the entrance) kind of crappy?

It’s really hard to believe that we don’t pull at least 5,000 students a game into HCC. Are students today just not into sports like they were in the past?

Football games have been the “place to be” for decades. Basketball games haven’t been can’t-miss for years. It’ll grow. Organic growth will pay a lot more long term dividends than a free sandwich but get them in the door…show them a great time and they’ll come back.

I think attendance gets better with the new and upcoming conference structure. I don't think you'll see many fans traveling from Huntington, Harrisonburg, or Norfolk to watch a week day basketball game, but the small rivalries like what we had in the SoCon will build up interest. Not suggesting the Sun Belt is equal to the SoCon, but having more opponents closer just mentally draws interest more than playing schools from Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama.

Of course the program will have to continue to improve and win, but I feel we've got the right coach in place to make that happen.

Once we get more people there consistently, they'll have to make sure they're making the game day experience worth it for people to return.

Absolutely. Weekend games especially. Add 200 ODU, Marshall, or JMU fans to 3,500 weekend App fans and the atmosphere will continue to build.

We are in first, not tied for first. If the regular season ended last night, we would be seeded #1 because we have the best winning % in the conference at the moment. Teams this season will not play the same number of games because of COVID cancellations and those games won't be made up.

So will percentage points matter or will head-to-head be the tie breaker. Currently Troy is 4-3, UTA is 5-4, Troy is technically ahead in the standing but both are 1 game above .500 and Troy lost to UTA.

Varsity Gym was amazing. Great atmosphere and packed out. Attendance for many games was like 7,000 or more. Especially for ETSU, Davidson, Furman. Also non conference games like Nebraska, Georgia, Georgia Tech etc...
We are getting back to those types of crowds and atmosphere. I think Marshall, JMU, ODU will help.
Take the stairs.

Per our online media guide, largest attendance for a game at Varsity Gym was 1/20/1990 vs ETSU packed with a raucous crowd of 8,564. We had a great rivalry with the Bucs back then and those matchups were can’t miss. We lost 96-94 in a wild one but it was as thrilling a game as I’ve ever attended.
