True. He was a legend, BUT how many African Americans were "FBS" head coaches during his time?

It's not anger it's posters saying he is still an App. He's a Cardinal. As to Mack. I just appreciate what he did to resurrect our program but he is not an App either.

Re: Putting the “L” in Louisville
As far as I am concerned Satt is an App Man for life as he graduated from App, contributed greatly to this program both in his playing career and professional career. There is nothing he has done to disparage App at any point. That should squelch any question about where his heart stands. And just because he has career aspirations to coach at the highest possible level, and App doesn't happen to be an avenue for him to meet that career goal, it should not take away from what he did for Appalachian State.
For careers in general, each person has different aspirations for their path in life, some want a comfortable local job, maybe less stress, maybe not as concerned about making the max amount of money, maybe love the atmosphere of a smaller venue, etc. They may be perfectly content with that lifestyle and it is a great fit for themselves and their families. Others want to try to take their career to the highest levels possible. Each comes with pros and cons. Neither are necessarily wrong nor should anyone question their motivations or loyalties. They should have the freedom to pursue their career as is best for them. A top P5 job is not for everybody, the same is true for a small high school coach or anything in between. To each his own. How can you criticize either when they have acted in good faith in their respective roles?

Re: Putting the “L” in Louisville
I have to disagree with the statement that Satterfield is not an App. I'm sorry but he got his degree here, coached as an assistant and a HC here. He was told he had to get "outside" experience to be considered for HC and he jumped through the hoops to get that position. He could have been a G5 head coach almost anywhere. He chose to return to App and headed up the program during the transition. Remember, Coach Moore wasn't really in favor of the move to FBS (as much as I love Coach Moore and do not wish to start anything negative here).
Satterfield has given more to this program than anyone I know. He left for an opportunity that any sane person would have jumped at in his position. I just don't understand this "all or nothing" mentality. He will ALWAYS be an App
Mack Brown and Drinkwitz were one year wonders. They played a role for that time and I appreciate what they did, but I don't consider them App men. They were employees who did a good job for a brief time. I hope they have some fond associations with App, but I doubt either would consider himself an "App man."

I'd take SS back as OC tomorrow, he's the best to ever hold that position here.

I can’t recall a former HC returning to a former school to take a lesser position.

Yeah, don't see that happening. If things don't work at Louisville, SS will land softly somewhere.

Re: Putting the “L” in Louisville
I can't recall another QB that was an average passer with average speed going 11-0 his senior year, then staying on to coach for 15 years including changing an offensive scheme that resulted in one of the best five year stretches at the FCS level, who then left the school he loves with the only goal to come back, who then led the most successful transition from FCS to FBS. So why not another first for one of the best to ever wear the black and gold.
Also family wouldn't mind it.

I would put Coach Moore first. If it weren’t for him, Coach Satterfield may not have come here in the first place.

Re: Putting the “L” in Louisville
If we take a little stroll down memory lane. Jerry Moore played football at Baylor. He then went through the ranks as high school HC, assistant as SMU, Nebraska and HC jobs at North Texas and Texas Tech, PRIOR to App. During that span, I bet you if you ask Jerry what his goal was it would be to rise to the top of the college coaching ranks.
Fast forward, per his own public speeches about his career, he then took hit a wall and went into another career, even though his heart was always in football coaching. At that point, he got back into the coaching via assistant at Arkansas and then to App as HC. THAT is when he decided that a career at App was a good fit for him and his family. Life is a journey and each person has to figure out what is the right path respectively. Don't throw shade on Satt for trying to figure out his path just because it doesn't align to NewApp's definition of what it should be. His decision to take another job and leave App does not take anything away from his legacy at App. NewApp, you are on an island with your position on this topic.

Doesn’t bother me to be on an island by self. Can I pick one of the Bahamas? It would nice this time of year.
