Re: So AL discussion
With the Coastal loss today if I am looking at it correctly we only need to win 1 of the last 2 conf games to make the championship. Even if we win out we will play in Louisiana regardless due to head to head loss. Another thing while bored and looking back thru past records we have only had 3 losing seasons in 38 years. 1983, 1993 and 2013. Early 80's weren't to kind to us but that kind of tradition lends to the insane fans we are and expectations for continuing success

Re: So AL discussion
I have never heard anything bad about Spurlin the entire time he has been at App. I find it hard to believe he spit on the guy. Yes, I have seen the play, the replay and I played it back again. There is no point where any fluid can be seen leaving Spurlin's mouth. He was clearly saying things to get under 52s skin as you could see on earlier plays that 52 was at his breaking point on overreacting. He clearly goaded him into hitting Spurlin and that is why Spurlin didn't react- he knew what he was doing and waited for the flag and ejection. But at no point did I see him spit and based on the character that I have heard about Spurlin for the past many years, I just don't believe he would do that. This guy has been a warrior for us for years and it just isn't in his character. This is not homerism, it is giving the guy that has shown for YEARS what kind of man he is and giving him the benefit of the doubt that he has EARNED. Spurlin is a MOUNTAINEER through and through and unless I see conclusive proof of spitting, or hear a confession from Spurlin, I refuse to believe he would do that. I saw the head move inward, but that doesn't mean he spit, it could just as easily mean he said something that 52 really didn't like. I will also say, at no point through any of 52's histrionics did he ever wipe his face clean. I ask all of you who doubt our guy, have you ever seen anyone spit on that didn't immediately wipe his the spit off his face? I sure haven't. The kid got goaded and lost his mind, but no way I think Spurlin spit on him. Bad call by the zebras.

So what reaction are you expecting. Spurlin to punch the ref or jaw at the ref. He reacted with bewilderment. I still find it odd that not one SA player went toward Spurlin not one. I'll admit its possible he spit and if he did he should not play the rest of the year. Can you admit its possible he didnt.Boonegoon wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 10:03 pmLook, I watched it. That guy was hot and then saw the replay and immediately thought Spurlin spat in the guys face. Using your rationale, I would say Spurlin would have reacted with with something had his ejection not been warrantedpostalapp90 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 9:53 pmI believe their coach was told by his player he was spit on but #58 for SA was standing right there watching and listening and had no reaction to Spurlin at all. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't reacted also

Re: So AL discussion
If this really did happen it’s not a good look for Caleb or our team but stuff happens every game. Does this seemingly isolated event for an otherwise really (from what people say) decent and devoted App player REALLY warrant being kicked off the team? I’m amazed at the keyboard jump to conclusion guys here. Two guys got a little fired up, got carried away, people who assume something happened and boom kick him off the team! I didn’t see a second of the game yesterday, was driving and only got the game to tune in after this happened so I have zero idea what was seen. I expect sportsmanship always but I also realize that 18-22 year olds with male testosterone flowing do stuff that they later regret especially during a heated game. To say that he should be kicked off the team or not allowed to play is ridiculous. The Covid thing is really ridiculous as well.

I too do not think Spurlin spit on their player. I do think he shot him "The Bird". Can't believe how #52 for them reacted. That guy will need some counseling or something after this. We sit in the section close to where he came off the field and he appeared to be in tears on the sideline screaming and ranting and raving all over the place. It took several folks to calm him down before they finally escorted him from the field. Never seen anything quite like that except maybe a tantrum from a 2 year old. Understand from the radio that Spurlin asked them if THEY could tell him why he was ejected because he did not know.postalapp90 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 8:39 pmWatching the replay I dont think he spit on him but its weird how Spurlin had no reaction to being punched almost like he expected it. I mean he never looked pissed during the whole exchange so he wasnt bothered by any thing they were jawing about Other guy reacted like a psycho after the flag removing his helmet and flexing and talking to himself. I dont remember Spurlin ever doing something late or excessive the whole time hes been here.

Three things will happen.
Coach will ask Spurlin.
Spurlin will tell the truth.
Coach will act accordingly

I don’t think anyone is advocating for the SA kid. He reacted to something and was ejected for throwing punches. As he should have been.

Look I know we’ll never know what happened but IF it was a spit that’s the one time I’m not blaming anyone for swinging.

Interesting that there was no question in the presser regarding the incident..not even a softball question related to the incident

No reason to ask it. Coach isn’t going to answer so why waste it.Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 11:18 amInteresting that there was no question in the presser regarding the incident..not even a softball question related to the incident

Re: So AL discussion
No idea what actually occurred, but I do know that Spurlin is really good at getting under opposing players’ skin (especially before and after plays) and getting them to react. Seems like it’s happened more this year than in the past. I didn’t even see spurlin in the game on the prior play. It looked like he came right in from the sideline and immediately walked up to 52 to talk junk. Not sure if that’s completely how it transpired, but that’s how it looked. Maybe that was spurlin’s objective…get a rise out of someone and see what sort of reaction he can get.

Re: So AL discussion
Did anyone else notice that Spurlin played a play after the ejection? The ref saw him in and stopped the action to get him off? I’m not sure App staff or Spurlin realized he’d been ejected.

Re: So AL discussion
Another reason: if Spurlin actually did spit on someone, it wouldn't be surprising if there's a legal side as well. We're effectively arguing if Spurlin committed a crime or not. However, I doubt he spit at the player.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 11:33 amNo reason to ask it. A more realistic thought: if what he said incited #52 to punch him, it was likely a flagrant unsportsmanlike (taunting) and they ejected him for it. It doesn't seem to be the vast conspiracy everyone thinks this is. It's a bunch of college players being dumb.
