We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
I actually hear what is said to me. I never said I was taking a survey. I clearly said these were friends of mine who owned clubs and restaurants in Charlotte. And as a Panthers season ticket holder I can have an opinion on all the BoA mess and what the Panthers were asking for. I really don't give a flip about UNCC and won't until the day you decide to play us and become a rival. That would actually be a good thing in my opinion but it makes too much sense to have a rival a stones throw away so I doubt it will happen but if it does then I will have an opinion. Until then good luck in starting your program.ImfromClayton wrote:You hear what you want to hear. For every angry person, there is a person who thinks it's great he gave back to the community. That just isn't true. Many believe that the best thing for both schools is to play each other, build a rivalry to work together against the "big boys". No matter how much we'd like either one of our schools to enter that fraternity it is not going to happen. This is like the method Matt Damon uses in the bar with the group of girls in Goodwill Hunting.

Though there are some who belittle everything UNCC does and put the school down constantly. I'm not sure of the reasons other than they truly perceive them to be a threat. I'm also not sure that there isn't some jealousy that they got the spot we were originally pining for.Saint3333 wrote:That is your bias that you believe all App fans have it out for everything UNCC related.ImfromClayton wrote:I understand that people are upset. It just seems like every other day there's a thread over here about UNC Charlotte, which don't get me wrong, y'all have every right to talk about UNC Charlotte all you want. I've said it before, I'll say it again. I have a brother who graduated from App, my mother graduated from App. I like to know how the fan base feels about relevant issues, not just football related, so that I can discuss them without being totally in the dark. I read the board often. I also have family at ECU. I read their board often. This board is just much easier to post in (Kudos to the mods). There's an awful lot on here about my 49ers consistently. I'm just saying.

Same story on AGS. Every group unfortunate enough to share the same bit of cyber space with these people feels the same way. Sure we but heads with them more often than most since we're so close geographically, but the common denominator in this equation is Charlotte fans.

Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
Clayton-In the last month this has been the only thread about UNCC. It's pretty easy to check. Go to active topics. At the bottom is a drop down box that let's you select a time frame. I just looked at the last month (7 pages) and there is not another UNCC thread. Not saying they haven't been mentioned somewhere in others but to say that it seems that there is a UNCC thread every other day is WAY off. We do have more important things to discuss and it doesn't appear that most of us are obsessed.ImfromClayton wrote:Looks at thread title

hapapp is correct that some people have issues with UNCC but I think you'll find that most of the 1,100 board members don't really care too much. A lot would love for UNCC to become a rival in all sports but again, until such time as that happens, we've got enough things to worry about and discuss. We both face a long road ahead.
I know you've been fair in most of your comments on here and I appreciate that but I just had to counter this one. Sorry.

Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
How is donating to one particular school (on the outskirts of the city limits that does very little to bolster the Charlotte economy) "giving back to the community?"
You're treating a football donation like he built a park in the inner city. Whose the biased one again? UNCC is NOT engrained in the culture of the city. Not by a long shot. No one benefits from his donation other than UNC-Charlotte.
I agree with an earlier poster, some people on this board have a HUGE inferiority complex. First of all UNCC is inside the city limits. It does little to bolster the Charlotte economy? Guess you havent been in the Univeristy area and seen the huge number of apartments that students occupy. Guess they dont go to shopping at the stores located nearby. They dont go downtown to the bars either. No one benefits from his donation? Tell that to the restaurant owners along North Tryon and the surrounding businesses and hotels in the University area. Guess they wont make money on Saturdays this fall. Someone else said no one will come to the games because they will lose. Well newflash folks if APP starts losing on a regular basis, folks wont go to Boone either. I went to ASU in the 80's' and 90's and I can remember having 8,000 people at a game. The days of 28,000 didnt come till the bandwagon pulled up in 2005. The snide comments towards UNCC and other schools only makes everyone on this board look childish.

Was it a play off game? I was at App from 80 to 84 and have gone to home games every year since. I don't remember attendance being as bad as 8k for any regular season games. I remember a few 20k plus crowds in the 80's. Maybe someone has access to average attendance numbers from back then. Just curious.ASUchipman wrote:I went to ASU in the 80's' and 90's and I can remember having 8,000 people at a game.

Much like your perception of the gift if he had given to us instead. Imagine how bitter UNCC fans would be (especially the local ones that he is trying to get money from) while giving $10 million to a school in the same state as you are trying to start up a program.ImfromClayton wrote:If his gift was to Appalachian State, your opinion on the ethics or hypocrisy of his decision would be much different.
At the end of the day, regardless of which school he gives to, the guy is trying to take from the community while he is "giving back to the community." Doesn't make much sense...
I personally don't care that he gave the money to UNCC. But if a man is "crying poor" (i know he's not really poor nor crying poor -- just a phrase), he shouldn't be donating a large sum of money at the same time.

Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
I have to admire what UNCC is doing. If you haven't visited their campus in the last few years, you will be impressed by the progress - It's certainly not the old UNCC of the old days. Very nice looking campus, and great athletic facilities, all centrally located together on campus. Some of the best in the State. And they have somewhat of an advantage in having money to plan and build the the football stadium - from scratch. No hodge podge design from numerous additions, and no multi-purpose design. It's a football stadium. And the stadium is very much in harmony with surrounding campus buildings' design.
Now for my take on college football in Charlotte. College football, by and large, doesn't do all that well in NFL cities. I don't believe Charlotte will be an exception to that general rule. In addition, Charlotte has really never been a college football town to begin with, even before the Panthers came to town. I'm betting the 49ers will draw well from their student and alumni fan base, but don't count on drawing heavily from the general population. Don't get me wrong, Charlotte has college football fans (just go to a local sports bar), but they tend to be alums, students, and fans of other schools: ASU, Va Tech, WVU, Clempson, USC, UNC, NC State, ECU, etc. So good luck and all the best to the 49ers. They will be successful in their college football venture, just not on a grand scale.

You're from Clayton,
I find it interesting that you believe we have some sort of preoccupation with UNC-C. In fact, I have read quite a few of your vile anti-ASU posts from your UNcc message board. Why don't you share with everyone how you hoped that CUSA would have added 2 more teams so they would have ended the pathetic SunBelt, and how the SBC is by far the worst conference of all, and it's not even close. You come to our board and play the fair-minded victim, and then go over to your message board and talk more garbage about us than anyone.
Two-faced losers like yourself continue to confirm what people think of your team's fans.
Troll on somewhere else.

"I would love to kill the sun belt and take a few more members, but at the same time, the way TV revenue is, I think we should stay where we are. I think we have done a good job as a conference of having a mix of product, market and recruiting grounds. You have to be large enough to have a conference championship game, but small enough to still make money on the tv deal. I think 14 is a solid number right now."

Also... I never even said I wouldn't take Appalachian State as one of those members. In fact I think you guys have the best brand in the Sun Belt today, before you ever join the league. Nowhere in my post did I say C-USA was any better, or any worse. Nowhere did I even say anything about Appalachian State. Also feel free to look through my post. Not much about Appalachian State though.

Edit: I did find one negative post about Appalachian State after our WNIT game with you guys. Sorry about that one. But your Coach's Dad threatened to fight one of our students. I thought it was funny.

There you go again. You come over here and talk about how you respect App, and how your mom and friends went there, etc...Then you go to your board and make posts about killing the Sun Belt, and when questioned, try to imply that you weren't talking about App. C'mon man. You stay on our board 24/7 and then have the nerve to make comments about OUR fans being over concerned about UNC-c?
No, I won't need your Twitter handle- Believe it or not, I really don't give a rats about a start up program nor it's start up fans. And I really don't care that you despise App and want our conference to die- just be consistent, and stop thinking you can pull the wool over people's eyes.

I went to plenty of App games in the early to mid 90s and 12k - 15k seems right for most of them. Those FCS titles and then sustained winning really lit a fire under the App fanbase and rightfully so.Yosef84 wrote:That agrees with my recollection as well.appbio91 wrote:12-15K is my memory from that time period.TheMoody1 wrote:Was it a play off game? Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
The old coliseum was great if all you wanted to do was go to the game and turn around and go home. The Bobcats/New Hornets are much better off downtown though. Yes it is a little more difficult to park - but the ability to grab dinner before the game or hang out somewhere after the game really makes up for it. Because of those options it is typically easier (at least in my experience) to leave a Bobcats game than it was a Hornets game. Everyone isn't rushing it to catch the game at the same time and everyone isn't all trying to leave at the same time and using the same exit. The light rail is awesome to use (I used it for some panther games too if I am not tailgating). Mostly it really is tied to knowing where you are and where to go. If you are an out of towner or irregular visitor into the city I can see how the coliseum on tyvola was easier.JCline0429 wrote:Yosef84 wrote:The thing to do for a Bobcats game is to take the light rail.
