Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
So he needed $60 million from my company's capital reserve fund to update BOA Stadium, but he has $10 Mil to donate to UNCC? Makes sense...

Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
I hate to hate Jerry Richardson or anyone, but I at least dislike him now.
The $10,000,000 is given in the name of his son. Didn't even think his son
went to UNCC. Knew the older one went to Clemson.
Looks like it could even hurt Bank of America Panther attendance.
Since he is giving money away.....

Sadly there will be more letters in the stadiums name than butts in seats.

Correction - the 10 Mil is not given in the name of his son. In addition to the naming he also endowed a scholarship in the name of his son. They did not elaborate on how much that was.GoApps70 wrote:I hate to hate Jerry Richardson or anyone, but I at least dislike him now.

I think his grandson is also a coach there!
Smart move by the AD.

It's curious to me how so many predict low attendance for the 49'ers. What do they have to go on? Didn't they outdraw ASU in the Spring game? They have room to expand that we don't have in a practical manner.

He;s given plenty of money to Wofford. His son Jon went to UNC and played football. Good for Charlotte getting him to donate this.
Jerry never said he didnt have enough money and our beloved mayor Anthony Fox OFFERED to give him money. While this will make a lot of people angry in the scheme of things its not a big deal. Im just jealous........

Wow, $10 mil. That will buy a lot of Tar Heel merchandise!
Maybe since the Wizard gave Jerry Richardson a new heart, he can give Judy Rose a brain, or better yet, some courage.

Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
They have too many students/alum to have too low of attendance. Also many of them don't go home for the weekend because charlotte is the place "to go" on weekends anyway. Plus charlotte is a city of ppl that support things like the arts, sports, etc so the money will come in. Remember the hornets had some of the best attendance in the NBA (no one liked the bobcats for many reasons). I imagine their stadium will never end building in the near future.JCline0429 wrote:It's curious to me how so many predict low attendance for the 49'ers. What do they have to go on? Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
ya, Charlotte is a sports town, there is just too many other teams, and the 49's are going to be way down on the list of teams to watch, Tarheel, State, ECU, App, Wake Forest, Duke, Clemson fans are not going to stay in Charlotte on a Sat afternoon to watch the 49's. I suspect that the first year or 2 they will have good attendance, wouldn't surpise me to see it north of 14,000, but once they start losing, and playing teams in their conference like, FAU, FIU, people will lose interest, and their numbers will probably drop.

Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
In my opinion, the Hornets had a much better location than the BoBCats. The Colliseum on Woodlawn was much easier to get to and parking was not a problem as it had a huge parking lot of its own. The BobCat's arena (whatever it is called now) is downtown where parking is at a premium. The last place I want to be before and after a game is in the middle of Charlotte, especially with family.Maddog1956 wrote:They have too many students/alum to have too low of attendance. I've had season tickets to the Bobcats the last few years. I have no trouble parking 2 blocks from the arena for $5 a game ($7 if its a big crowd). The walk is shorter then it ever was at the old coliseum. They also have police out to direct traffic before and after every game. I've never felt anything but safe leaving a bobcats game at 10 or 11 at night.
The problem with the Bobcats isn't that the arena is located in a thriving downtown area. The problem is that they are terrible and this city has no loyalty to the Bobcats brand. One of those has been corrected, just have to field a decent team now.

The thing to do for a Bobcats game is to take the light rail. Parking is free. Light rail only costs a few bucks for a round trip.JCline0429 wrote:In my opinion, the Hornets had a much better location than the BoBCats. Re: 49ers Stadium Naming
This makes sense on the surface, but you have to remember a few things. We have a very large student base, so % wise we should get a good crowd of them no matter what, our FSL's cost us all a lot of money so I would expect a good crowd from us no matter what, we have stayed in the top 100 in basketball attendance with some really really crappy basketball recently. To me that says we have some core fans that will show up no matter. As for all those other fans - that is fine, but we have over 100,000 living alumni. While we would like for a local Wake Forrest fan to adopt us, the truth is we don't need them that bad if football can tap into the sleeping giant that is the living alumni base. Lastly - football is a different beast all together. You guys know that and it is why even before your FCS titles football was more popular than your basketball. I am more worried about what it will look like with the first crappy weather day. Charlotte fans (city not the school) are known for being wusses when it is either cold or raining.moehler wrote:ya, Charlotte is a sports town, there is just too many other teams, and the 49's are going to be way down on the list of teams to watch, Tarheel, State, ECU, App, Wake Forest, Duke, Clemson fans are not going to stay in Charlotte on a Sat afternoon to watch the 49's. We just found out yesterday that our ODU game next season with be on Fox Sports - nationwide. That is huge for a first year program and should continue to help us grow. I expect ODU to crush us, but ya never know - gotta go play the game! At this point the only two things left I would like to see is a local TV deal and something about getting those lights installed - hopefully after this season.
Go Niners!
