Appalachian's soccer facility ranks last among Division I schools in North Carolina

What is the source of this ranking?

With talk of moving the track, it makes sense to follow the examples of UNC, NC State, and UNCC and build a multi-purpose facility with stadium, soccer field and track. Tremendous bang for the buck and would serve many needs.

Here's hoping you guys get the soccer facility. The soccer tradition at Appalachian is incredible. Playing in off campus, with the football product that you guys have can't be easy on the soccer attendance. Hope you guys get a facility and soccer catches back up! It really is a phenomenal sport to watch. There's no more exciting moment in sports than when your team scores a goal.

You'll soon see this differently.

Because goals happen so infrequently. Most boring sport ever invented.

By the way I hope CVAPP is proud of me for trimming this quote.

Never heard complaints of boredom back in Apps golden age of soccer. I'm guessing the first ASU varsity sport to make SI and national rankings. Put us on the map, in many ways. And games were a blast.

Anecdotal evidence "collected" by several generations of ASU soccer players and coaches who have played in those other North Carolina D-I facilities and have first-hand knowledge.

Personally, I don't think we're dead last; but certainly in the bottom two or three.

There is a more than adequate site on the Broyhill Center section of the campus that has been set aside for the purpose of building a soccer complex for about 15 years. The hard feelings among many soccer alums result from the decision to "go in with" the High Country Avalanche to build a "Mickey Mouse" facility across town rather than doing it right the second time. Money earmarked for soccer was redirected to the football/athletic center project. (You may recall the first time was when soccer was thrown off-campus on a steep hill at State Farm with no parking and two ratty, nasty old mobile homes for dressing rooms.) And...that was at least the third time the soccer program got stabbed in the back by the Appalachian admin. We have looooong, looooong memories!

I've heard the same about good defensive football games also.

It does require someone with an attention span of an adult to watch.

Don't get me wrong. I love football, but my love for soccer will never die. Loved soccer long before my Niners were any good! When team USA scores in the World Cup, hard to beat those moments.

It's tough waiting 8 to 12 years for each one of those goals though.
