Cashion SoCon POTY, Wesley COTY

Unread post by T-Dog » Mon May 06, 2013 2:43 pm

The Southern Conference’s softball coaches recognized four Appalachian State University student-athletes on its 2013 all-conference teams, the league announced on Monday. Senior Allie Cashion was named SoCon Player of the Year, marking the first time an App State Player has earned the honor, while head coach Shae Wesley was named Coach of the Year, another program first

Along with being named Player of the Year, Cashion was named first team all-conference for the third time, marking the first time in App State softball a player has been named all-conference three times and only the second repeat all-conference player as Lindsay Glover was named all-conference in 2005 and 2006.

Sophomore catcher Sarah Warnock was named second team all-conference, while freshman catcher Alex Sohl and freshman pitcher Shivaun Landeros earned all-freshman honors

Amazing that only one player from the SoCon Champs makes the first team while four players from the second-place team makes it. On the other hand it shows how much of a team effort this season was.

Congrats to Coach Shae Wesley and the entire App State softball program for an outstanding regular season. Congrats also to Allie Cashion for providing outstanding senior leadership to a relatively young team. You go, ladies! Mow 'em down in the tourney.

It looks like Coach Wesley is building a solid foundation to continue this season's success. We will miss the seniors obviously but there is a good nucleus of young talent to build on. I believe there are some pretty good recruits coming next year too. Solid pitching will be what sets them apart and hopefully we can get the pitching we need going forward. Both starters and the back-up are due back next year and I think there is one or two freshmen coming in that are pitchers. Congrats to the softball team and best wishes to bring home the tourney championship.

Very proud of the two award-winners and the entire team!

Congrats to Cashion and coach Wesley. IMO Sarah Warnock should have been first team. Take a look at her numbers. She is a hitting machine.

Will this team compete in the Sunbelt next year or 2015?

I would assume 2015, but I don't know that for a fact.

If I recall, all teams will compete for Sun Belt Championships in '14-15

Edit: Softball, being a spring sport will compete for a SB Championship in '15

Ok so 14-15 school year, but spring 15 first season in Sunbelt. Sunbelt softball is a little more competitive than SoCon. They actually have some teams that rank among the best in the country. It is great to see our team get over the hump prior to a move up so to speak for them as well. I looked at La. Lafayette softball facilities In particular. They look better than our baseball.
