This was in an email from the chancellor today...

I am encouraged by our numbers so far, including:
• Last week, during our pop-up testing for residence hall students and at Student Health Services, we conducted 2,006 COVID-19 tests. Of those tests, 27, or only 1.3 percent, were positive.
• Of our available isolation and quarantine space, 86 percent is currently available and we have additional options we can utilize if needed.
I know, however, that it is early in the semester. I cannot emphasize strongly enough that it is up to each of us to minimize the spread of COVID-19 among members of our university and the greater community.
• Across the state, gatherings and parties are limited by Executive Order of the Governor of North Carolina to no more than 10 people indoors and no more than 25 outdoors. This does not apply to our classrooms and laboratories, which are set up for physical distancing, but it does apply to meetings, parties and off campus gatherings, and the university takes this order very seriously. App State Police will assist Boone Police in monitoring for large parties, and students who are in violation will be referred to Student Conduct.
• On August 14, the Delta Chi fraternity was placed under University Interim Suspension and National Cease and Desist Pending an Investigation for failure to follow the Joint Council Safety Statement in regards to off-campus gatherings.
University staff meet with public health experts every weekday. We are closely monitoring the health of our community and our response to positive cases of COVID-19. In the coming days, we will add enhancements to our reporting dashboard so our university community will have access to additional public health information, including percentages of positive test results.

I hope numbers stay low. Last week was "move-in" week. One would think numbers would be low as folks that may contract cv-19 need time for symptoms to develop. UNC started classes a week earlier than App St. My understanding is that there are 47 or so cases at App St. (Not verified of course) as of today maybe. It will be interesting to see how this week and next week play out. My daughter is sophomore living off campus. We stayed at Horton Hotel for 4 days to vacation. I walked campus everyday and downtown for some exercise. Most people wearing mask if not social distancing. The Horton Hotel parking is behind hotel next to an apartment complex. Each evening, music, Hackie sack (so?), and adult beverages...things we used to do when in college.. decent crowd..no masks or social distancing. Only time will tell. No matter what, number of cases will increase, etc for whatever reason. I just hope low enough numbers to keep students at school getting to experience some sort of college experience, no major health issues and the fall football schedule happens.

I have concerns, some stories and photos that i have viewed tell me it is not being taken seriously and will bit them in the ass. lets hope not. just start rumors of kids being expelled and we can control this.

Five months into a lockdown mandated by one person, we should be considering legislation mandating that the Executive's power to mandate these type of lockdowns be limited to 30-days and anything beyond must be reviewed and voted upon by the General Assembly. There is already a provision in place that is not being followed. This isn't a post on whether or not Cooper is doing what needs to be done but rather about the fact that a single person should not be able wield this much power in a representative democratic state.

And what is a gathering outdoors? Greensboro shutdown Elm Street in downtown to traffic so restaurants could extend outdoor space. What essentially developed was an outdoor gathering of hundreds of people in an area the size of a football people.

I thought this was a fall camp thread? More bitching about politics. Some of y’all should run for office if you think you’d do such a damn good job.

I keep seeing/hearing about how well young Mr. Horn is doing and it's getting me so excited. I hope we can find ways to incorporate him early on.

Agree and it’s always good to hear coach talk about the newer younger guys making plays. Some folks think the program will completely fall apart once a class graduates. When you reach the program level of App State you just plug and play

Have that feeling that these cancel culture and lockdown leaders are going to lose
