the Wisconsin game is gone. Big 10 just announced they'll play only conference games this season.

"And the likelihood of rescheduling the game against Wisconsin in the near future is slim also. App State has full non-conference slates scheduled through the 2024 season. "

Yeah the virus came from China. Hence the China virus. Not that difficult to remember that small detail.

Re: Wisconsin game in jeopardy
So Wisconsin can't play App State at home, but they can go to College Park to play Maryland and Iowa is cancelling games with Iowa State but they can go to Happy Valley...that makes total sense.

Conferences cancelling out of conference games isn't to reduce travel.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:38 pmSo Wisconsin can't play App State at home, but they can go to College Park to play Maryland and Iowa is cancelling games with Iowa State but they can go to Happy Valley...that makes total sense.
The main goal is to buy about a months worth of time before making the final decision whether a fall football season will take place. Before the start of the season, a 6 week practice period is allowed. With games originally starting in late August/ early September, the start of that 6 weeks was coming up basically next week or so. By getting rid of the out of conference games (which can be between 3-4 depending on conference) you shift the start of the season to October and the start of the 6 week training period moves to mid August, allowing the decision makers to kick the can a bit longer.

Re: Wisconsin game in jeopardy
You're correct of course; but for a lot of teams this is the most dreaded (but really expected) news they could receive about getting college football underway for 2020.citroknight wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 2:10 amConferences cancelling out of conference games isn't to reduce travel.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:38 pmSo Wisconsin can't play App State at home, but they can go to College Park to play Maryland and Iowa is cancelling games with Iowa State but they can go to Happy Valley...that makes total sense.

In other news, the NCAA has thrown in the white towel on all DII fall sporting events.
There's still more sad, bad news out there merely awaiting formal announcement...

Re: Wisconsin game in jeopardy
Another element, should they stay with the fall time table, is that it allows them to move games around if a team is hit hard with the virus. 8 games in a 13 week period allows some flexibility.citroknight wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 2:10 amConferences cancelling out of conference games isn't to reduce travel.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:38 pmSo Wisconsin can't play App State at home, but they can go to College Park to play Maryland and Iowa is cancelling games with Iowa State but they can go to Happy Valley...that makes total sense.

Re: Wisconsin game in jeopardy
I heard on the late local news last night that the ACC and SEC was adopting the same Conference only games schedule meaning no Wake Forest game either.

Dammit. Are you telling me that my ultra violet light enema and shot of bleach are not going to work for COVID???
What a waste....
On a serious note, we are going to be lucky if there are any games (not just OOC). This is an attempt to move things back in hopes something will break or a vaccine can effectively be instituted. Just not seeing it.

Well, actually there has been a significant change that very few are aware of. I stumbled across this video from a government meeting in Texas in May. They are discussing changes to the counting methodology of COVID 19 cases in Texas. They also spend a significant amount of time expressing their concerns. If you go back and look at the daily case charts, this is about the same time that the cases began to spike. Also, remember that Dr. Fauci said in his Congressional testimony that he expected the daily cases to be as high as 100,000. Most people scoffed at that statement. We are now certainly headed in that direction. Anyway, the part about COVID19 begins around the 15 minute mark and lasts about 30 minutes. You don't have to watch the whole video. I think that the one thing that is evident about this whole scenario is that there is no truth to be found anywhere from anybody.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 3:55 pmUnfortunately, while "pushing pause" on college football is probably going to be necessary, it won't help any more than quarantining did if we do little in the meantime to actually slow the infection rate. The virus will still be there whenever we try to play games again (unless/until there's a vaccine, of course).T-Dog wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 3:26 pmWell, it shouldn't have been intertwined, but it is now because enough people didn't take it seriously once Memorial Day happened and a lot of people were rushed to reopen everything. We're now faced with more difficult decisions in July because of the ignorance in March, April, May and June.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 2:30 pmThat’s a cop out answer at this point, because every bit of it is completely intertwined. It’s not necessarily prioritizing business and profits when you look at it from a “being able to provide for your family and provide an education to children” perspective. Not to mention the increased rates of suicide and domestic violence that have spiked over the last 4 months.
This isn’t a singular issue, it is the entirety of society.
The tough answers are a rabbit hole or sacrifices that in the end is reliant on government protecting its citizens for a longer period of time. And right as deferrance periods are ending.
Overall, in the grand scheme of things, my point was that we should push pause on college football and putting young people out there to make sure schools get millions of dollars is not the course of action we need to take.
I was just reading something about this point today: It's not so much that states reopened too soon, it's that when they did, they reopened dumb stuff like bars, and kept masks optional (while certain people decided to make them a culture war fight), and didn't have enough test/trace capability, etc. And there's little reason to expect our response to improve in 2020, IMO.
