Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Here is what we know:
There are multiple job openings this year.
We have a coach that is a viable option for one or more of them.
There are multiple coaches that are just as viable.
He is going to leave at some point. It is given.
We have been through this before and came out of it just fine.
Will it affect recruiting? Sure. How will it affect recruiting, too early to tell one way or another.
Like HPA said. Everyone breath. It will be OK.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
What committment would you want? He has a contract for a set number of years and a buyout in the million + range. If we had totally shat the bed this year, would you want us to keep him around because of the contract?

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Base salary for Gillin is $271k (check News & Observer NC Govt Employee Salaries Database) for the 2018-2019 school year. That does not include any bonuses, expenses, perks, etc. No clue about the buyoutPennywiseEsquire wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 10:25 amDoes anyone know what Gillen’s salary and buyout is?
Something to note, Gillin spent 10 years in NC before moving to Missouri for a few years, then coming back. His contract is extended to 2022. He might already be where he wants to retire...

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Life of a G5. Hire a young coach, he has a great year or three, gets the opportunity to get a guaranteed $10M-$16M multiyear contract, leaves for said contract. Like most professionals it's also about self actualization and being a head coach at a P5, especially an SEC P5, is a lot closer to the top of the self actualization ladder than any G5. I'm been in executive search for the last 30 years and this is the cycle in most Fortune 500 companies (thank goodness) and it applies to college sports as well. Executive want the $$ but they also want to advance to the top of their field. App is a great G5 program and we will be fine rather Drink stays or goes. I'm glad he appears to be concentrating on 1-0 this week as this game could determine rather he gets "that P5 offer" or not.

The three coaches that have confirmed having met with Arkansas Reps are Kiffin Leach and Drink

Apparently Washington just signed Mike Leach to an extension. Guess they are down to two.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Meeting with reps doesn’t allow one to draw a solid conclusion. He could have met with a search firm to gauge his interest. He could have told them thanks but no. Before you flame me for this. Healy told Missouri he wasn’t interested in the job. Nothing about Eli would lead me to believe that he will take just any job. He has a plan.

Believe me, kiffin will not be coaching at FAU next year. They cant offer anywhere near as much as arky.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Not saying this info is incorrect, but no one knew who Drink was before DG announced him. Bigger schools tend to have more leaks, but there's no telling if that's the entire list of actual candidates.
Give 'em hell!

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Maybe. Hopefully. But FAU loaned Kiffin a large sum to buy a house in FL. That loan doesn’t have to be repaid if he stays through 2021, I believe. I would think beaches in FL would be a better place than Arkansas to live. I’m not convinced it’s a done deal yet. Really hope to hear Kiffin announced as Arkansas new HC soon.

I don’t know the Arkansas’ position is filled until Felony State fills their vacancy.

True...but it's hard to place a $$$ amount on the warm feelings you get from the South Florida Sun(dresses)!

Both good suggestions...ericsaid wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:48 pmWhy not explore bringing Bryan Brown back, if that's the case.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:45 pmI don't care if he goes or not. I like Drink but if they offer congrats and see you. I don't mind coaches coming and leaving after a few years but our next HC could see the same result next year and then bolt if we hire another like Drink. I say hire Shawn Clark immediately. He will stay for a while and I know Shawn can run the show.beachneer40 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 12:56 pmSaw this on Arkansas thread, and also heard from a reliable source that Drink had a face to face interview with Ark. AD. Just posting the info and screen shot. This is a plane track from Ark. to North Wilkesboro (Drink) to Boca (Kiffin) and Idaho (Leech). Just thought I would share.
but if Drink were to leave and NOT take Roof with him, I’d bet good money that DG would buy him a brand new Head Coach’s visor.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Clark over Roof all day long. I know roof has P5 HC experience, but if we are staying in house, I want to stay IN HOUSE. Clark has left blood sweat and tears on that field just as our current players have and future players will. I don’t want to replace a coach every year. We got lucky this year with not losing too many recruits, and having an amazing year on the field, but I don’t think we can sustain complete coaching overhauls and new schemes and recruiting through multiple sequential off seasons.John-N-Houston wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 1:28 pmBoth good suggestions...ericsaid wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:48 pmWhy not explore bringing Bryan Brown back, if that's the case.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:45 pmI don't care if he goes or not. Not saying Clark would or should stay forever, but at least earn your wins with your recruits and actually invest in the team a little. Don’t want to be a yearly stepping stone and I think Clark would stay for a little while.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Kiffin to Arkansas is basically a done deal.
Napier to Ole Miss is looking more likely.
Norvell to FSU is done.
Willie Fritz, Blake Anderson, and K.C. Keeler are favorites at Mizzou.
Obviously, this is all very fluid and can change.
Drink definitely interviewed with Arkansas but he isn't at the top of the list right now. If Kiffin falls through (not likely) Butch Davis seems to be their plan B.
This by no means we are out of the woods with keeping Drink at least one more year, but, its looking better.

KC Keeler out of left field. Can we get Mizzou on the schedule to kick his ass again (if he's their choice)?
