For some reason I didnt think this was allowed. I remember hearing satt did not (directly at least) speak to Loserville until after the game. I agree that this would not be cool.
I remember Satts buyout was smaller if he got permission from DG to talk to another school which he did. Anyone know if that is how Drinks contract is written.
Satt’s agent negotiated an insultingly low buyout before his last season. He had 3+ years left on his contract and only owed us 1 year salary when he left.
Gillin learned his lesson and drink’s buyout is considerably higher, especially the longer that is left on his contract (such as this year).
I don’t see a scenario where gillin doesn’t give permission to interview. What is to be gained by that? They will interview anyway and then have a bad feeling for the AD and the school. You don’t want the reputation as a school that keeps a coaching staff from advancing their careers. Getting the AD permission is just a courtesy to let them know the potential for leaving is there, and not doing that would result in a larger buyout.

Saw this on Arkansas thread, and also heard from a reliable source that Drink had a face to face interview with Ark. AD. Just posting the info and screen shot. This is a plane track from Ark. to North Wilkesboro (Drink) to Boca (Kiffin) and Idaho (Leech). Just thought I would share.
I don't care if he goes or not. I like Drink but if they offer congrats and see you. I don't mind coaches coming and leaving after a few years but our next HC could see the same result next year and then bolt if we hire another like Drink. I say hire Shawn Clark immediately. He will stay for a while and I know Shawn can run the show.
Why not explore bringing Bryan Brown back, if that's the case.
Brown would be out the door very quickly as well. I would go with Clark or Ivey. They are older than Brown and both love App. If we don't want to lose coaches every year those are the two best chances. They would stay for a long time.
That is what a lot of the former player/alumni base are clamoring for.

Those who want continuity that is how you get it. Go after one of those guys.

I wouldn’t read too much into his absence. With game planning and recruiting this week, a Coaches Show would be low on the priority list.

Maybe, but isn't it in his contract to do that show each week? A little concerning....

Yes it is in his contract. It's part of his bonus structure. He wouldn't willingly miss it without a good reason.

I'm still trying to figure out the infatuation fans and AD's have with Kiffin besides his last name. Of his 60 collegiate wins, 25 came at FAU in a weak CUSA with his most notable win coming against a 5-7 AF team in 2018.
What am I missing?
The UNC-C fans all have boners thinking Doogie Howser can poach App's recruits. Maybe they can get a corporate sponsorship from Cialis with Healy lounging in a tub in the middle of Club LiT.
if their coach goes to Mizzou, is there any of their commits we would want? I would assume not or they'd probably be App commits already, but you never know.
Plus, you have to question the judgement of somebody that thinks a shirtless, pasty white guy self promoting with stupid locker room videos is cool.

I completely understand why coaches move for the big money. It’s a tuff business and you can be out of a job in a hurry. They need to make their money when they can. That said, if Drink did interview with AK I can’t help but have a problem with him doing so and again if he did he should have made sure that no one found out. Drink came in and asked the young men on this team to buy into him and his program and apparently they did. Sorry but he owes them, not me, them, the players, better than taking a job interview before the season is over. He’s in year one with these guys, make some kind of a commitment to them. I hate the fact that for the second year in a row our guys are preparing for a championship game and wondering if the coach will still be around for the bowl game to follow. The NCAA should not allow these interviews to take place until the season is over and that includes bowl games. College sports should be more about the students and less about the coaches.
Exactly. If a coach is going to ask for a commitment to himself and his staff and his program, he should be willing to offer one as well to his players, the university and the fans. Sorry but if a coach leaves after one year he never had any intention of making even the smallest of commitments to APP. I love APP State and if Drink were to bail out on us this quick that would royally piss me off. Our university deserves to be more than a quick stepping stone to a bigger gig. Our players deserve better than that. Hopefully this is all just rumors. Life needs to be about more than just dollars and personal advancement. Other people and their needs should matter. Satt left us after giving us 6 years. I hated to see him go but after giving us 6 years he didn't really owe us anymore. I understood. I think Drink should give us at least 3-4 years. If he continues to produce like he has, there will be a bigger gig waiting for him then too. P5's fire coaches every year. But give us at least that much commitment. Don't come in here and possibly train wreck our program by making our players go through another staff change this fast.

If that is the case, then good. But, Drink is contractually obligated to be at the weekly show.

I certainly get your point. If I may offer a different perspective. The coaches are football coaches and molder of men. If your child came to you with a situation where someone is interested in their services, would you advise them to listen and make a sound decision or would you tell them to stick it out where you are because you owe it to your co workers? I would advise them to explore all options. I wouldn’t begrudge Coach for doing the same.
I get the timing isn’t ideal, but it never really is in the world of college football. Especially when you are a good program.
As I’ve stated many times, I completely understand why coaches move for the money. And some if not most move for the challenge as well. But there’s just something that’s not right about telling your players to buy into you and your vision and leaving so fast. As for what I would tell my daughter, do what’s right and the rest will work itself out.

We sure do seem to enjoy making character judgments over speculation and rumor. Maybe the Arkansas contingent flew in, met with Drink and he told them thanks but no thanks. Maybe they met with Shawn Clark or, while we're speculating, Ted Roof.

Apparently Hog fans believe that Kiffin is the savior they need and he will help them beat Alabama. And this will all happen without cheating or breaking any rules on the recruiting trail. Has Arkansas really ever had any sustained success? I am not talking like one or two good years in a row but sustained with 9 win seasons?
They were pretty good during the Frank Broyles years, winning a national championship in 1964.
