Re: Are we a top 25 team?
Yes.
We're #24 aren't we?
We're 10-1 aren't we?
We clinched the SBC Eastern Division title didn't we?
So we played like crap for the first half...we came back pretty definitive didn't we? Even despite having some top players go out with injuries and playing in horrible weather conditions.
Sorry it wasn't a 75-3 score, but we still got the job done at the end of the day. Not every game is a clinic.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
By week 11 this is a stupid thread. We are ranked and have earned it. We’ve played 11 games and won 10. God I hate these types of posts

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
Back in the 80’s and 90’s we had some pretty good teams that won a lot of games by 7 pts or less. Now we win 35-13 and some want to make it feel like we lost.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
Until we lose, a resounding YES! We are a good team. We deserve the ranking. We did not have our best first half yet held the lead and won going away 35-13. Held them scoreless second half. Yes, we are a top 25 team.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Even the best have the occasional scare, we've had a few hairy moments but we overcame it.
The good teams find a way to win. Period. End of discussion. If your definition of a "Top 25 team" is one who destroys every opponent week-in and week-out, go hop on the Ohio State bandwagon.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
Yes. Definitely. Don't get lost looking at individual trees, look at the whole forest and you'll see top 25.
If you look at UCF's 2013, 17, and 18 seasons which all ended with NY6 bowls, we had some squeaky wins and bad games. Even against not great teams. Hell, our 12-1 Blake Bortles team from 2013 almost lost to a 2 win USF team. I don't think I have to explain the oddity of rivalry games to you guys.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
I think the problem here is that some folks want us to look like a top 5 team not a top 25 team. There are 5 our 6 teams that are way above everybody and then there’s a lot parity in the next 20 or maybe even 30 teams. I think we belong in the top 25.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
Yep, and even the Top 5s have their letdown games...Clemson nearly lost to UNC, the week following our game with UNC. Clemson was a 2 point conversion away from losing to a team that we beat. And ended up only winning by 1 point. Georgia lost to South Carolina, another team we beat...just 2 examples that are highly relevant to us.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
Speaking of the infamous Fire Ted Roof thread, Charlotte beat Marshall and is now bowl eligible. So in hindsight, we beat a significantly improved team by two scores even if the defense wasn't top notch.

Cincinnati is not good, they barely survive every week. They can’t score, we would only need 20 points to beat them. The committee at some point needs to take into account how poorlrly they play.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
I think the AAC commish is full of crap. Cincy is not a top 25 caliber team and I don't think SMU or Navy are as well. As for us. I look at it this way. If we had Clemson's schedule where do I think we would be? I say we would finish 8-4 or 9-3 with 6-6 as worst case. If we play our best then I think we could be 9-3 or 8-4 and would most definitely be worth being ranked. If we play our worst I could see 7-5 or 6-6 and then I would say no.Rick83 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 7:19 pmSaying that a Sun Belt divisional champion with 2 P5 wins and an overall record of 10-1 isn't a top 25 team, then you're agreeing with the AAC commissioner who's full of crap.
I've said it before and I'll say again...it feels like the rest of the football world thinks more highly of our program than some of our own fans do..,just enjoy this amazing one-of-our-best-ever seasons. Just enjoy it!

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
I agree that we need to be glad we won but I also don't want us to sound like a bunch of people full of ourselves. We can definitely improve on some things. If anyone here thinks we are perfect we are not. However, if we are healthy and we play App ball then yes we are most definitely a top 25 caliber team. I think there are teams ahead of us we could beat but also a few behind us that we could beat or lose to.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
I think that is a good way to put it. I don't think we play like a top 25 team all the time but there are times I look at us and think we might be a 15-20 type team as well. Everyone has a good and bad night.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
I agree here. I was not ready to say we are definitely top 25 caliber until I saw the South Carolina game. We went into a SEC stadium and beat their butts. That night I said we definitely belong now. Losing to GSU looks awful but as long as we win by double digits from here on out I think our resume will continue to say top 25 for sure. This may sound crazy but if we end up 12-1 and then go to the New Orleans Bowl and win by a good margin I could see us rise all the way up to 17-19 range. If we lose another game though we will fall out and just keep a few votes, at best.citroknight wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 9:43 pmYes. Definitely. If we could finish 13-1 with a statement in the bowl game then I bet we would start 2020 ranked in the preseason.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
It'd be a travesty to NOT preseason rank an App team that finishes 13-1. They always downgrade G5 teams a bit from the final poll to the preseason poll, so a 17-19 finish probably gets you 22-25 at the start of the season. But being preseason ranked is a huge accomplishment. Seeing as how App already owns most of the ranked weeks in SBC history and has never been preseason ranked, you'll set another conference record by doing so.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 10:58 pmI agree here. Re: Are we a top 25 team?
I'm impartial on early rankings. I get what you are saying. It looks good and is great for marketing but I like being an underdog without pressure. Our schedule early on will push us in the rankings if we go 3-0 for sure and aren't in the preseason but if we start out around 22-24 then we would certainly be in the 15-18 range and be the frontrunner for the NY6.citroknight wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 11:36 pmIt'd be a travesty to NOT preseason rank an App team that finishes 13-1. However, we have Troy and ULL left on our schedule now. I just worry about those two games for now. Past that we don't control anything else.

Re: Are we a top 25 team?
Ill say this:
We should all be very prepared for App to be leapfrogged by:
Virginia Tech (8-3)
Virginia (8-3)
Wake Forest (8-3)
All won.
If you think the committee is gonna send an unranked team to the ACC Championship to play Clemson, you’re on acid.
I’m preparing myself for the reality that we may not even be ranked, at 10-1. Hope I’m wrong.
