Pass defense was biggest question going in. ET running back ran for nearly 1000 yards last year. For new coaching and new offensive scheme, not bad.

I think our Run Defense looked great as the game went on.

It also looked like our O Line really got pushed around most of the game. Wasn't a great look with a line that returned 4 starters. I know Vic went out early but even in the bowl game without him we pushed around MTSU. Looked like our running lanes and pass protection just weren't there.

Where you watching the right game?

I didn't like the two sacks given up but Zac completed 67% of his pass attempts so he must have had time to throw. I'm no expert though like some on this board...

I think some of y'all only watched the first half, or maybe had a few too many. Especially in the second half, App was pretty much running at will. The pass protection was also much improved. I re-watched a little of the game on ESPN+ and noticed what seemed to be an inordinate amount of plays ended by a shoe string tackle. I'd say there were at least 10 plays where a WR or RB had the field wide open ahead of them, but an ETSU player slapped their heel or grabbed one foot and tripped the App player up. I'd venture to say there were at least 5 TD saving tackles made by ETSU players just barely grabbing an App guy's foot.

Selling beer in the stadium and not watching the second half? Hmmm...wonder if there's a correlation?

Our o line was not good in the first half in pass protection period. Zac had hardly any time to throw the ball and make reads. If you think they did a good job protecting in the first half, especially against an inferior opponent, you probably don’t know much about football.

The second half was a good bit better but Zac was still under pressure a lot more than he was most games last year. My only point was that it did not look like a line that was playing an inferior opponent that returned four starters.

We did win 42-7 right? Probably could have been worse. When did Drink start subbing? If I didn’t know any better we have all sorts of issues. :D

You understand that Zac is being asked to alter his game? He is being asked to stand in the pocket and make more reads rather than break contain and take off. I would expect someone with your football acumen to understand.

I feel like we didn't really learn much about this team last Saturday. It's really hard to gauge anything in a game like that. The first half is the first half of play with a new head coach. The second half, the opponents lack of depth showed and we wore them down. I'm glad we got to start with such a game, but I wouldn't read a whole lot into the schemes on offense or defense.

I agree. It seemed ETSU pushed our O line around more than I would have expected. Especially on passing downs. I know we have a lot of new dynamics going on. I'm happy we played ETSU 1st game they were a tough FCS opponent and they "play hard". And I couldn't tell about player rotation there was A LOT of sun on the east side

As those who have been on this board for a number of years know, I rarely, if ever, criticize the APP coaches and what I am about to say is not meant as criticism. If Coach Satterfield and his staff had still been in place we would have had the ETSU game well in hand long before we did. Simple explanation --- no changes, pick up where we ended last season -
