Solution to the bleachers with no seat backs:

I'm surprised Appalachian hasn't capitalized on renting these out to season ticket holders. A lot of other schools use these.
Let's not do this. My student fees paid for things I never saw as a student, but you now enjoy... the same for the fees you are paying now. Consider it a "pay it forward" issue.appbio91 wrote:Unless I read it wrong this was a student survey. I think you are safe in assuming that on this board there is majority support for fbs move. I have not seen a student survey that shows majority support. In fact I would be willing to bet that if students and parents of students were surveyed and told "your fees are going to increase to fund a move up" there would not be majority support. This is not an effort to impede growth. People are just setting priorities. Am I paying for a college education or a football team? The people on here attacking this guy probably do not have a dog in the student fee fight so they don't care if they increase.ASUMountaineer wrote:My only disagreement here is that this is a "poor kid." He set out to make a statement, and did so publicly. The first lesson I learned at was "to know your audience." He has to be well aware that the majority of people support a move to FBS. As a result, the onus is on him to make well-reasoned arguments and to produce verifiable facts for both positions so that he can adequately draw comparisons between the two options. As it were, his site is nothing more than opinion with less facts than what can be found in most FCS/FBS threads on this very board.vegattk wrote:I certainly agree... But did this guy BRING this to the MMB, or did someone scrounge it in the intrawebs to bring it to the pro-fbs altar here on our new board?Saint3333 wrote:I have no issue with the right to voice an opposing opinion, however the untruths and poor presentation is well open to criticism.vegattk wrote:I find it funny that the majority of the posts on here are "heaping" on this kid.
I, for one, want to give him props for doing something about what he believes in. Heck, even though he doesn't put a whole lot of facts in his argument, he does raise a good point about students having to pay more for worse seats...
Something tells me those guys on the 50 up front will be cheering no matter what division we're in.
It just seemed that there were a few on here that were openly hostile to this poor kid. IMHO I never remembered such open hostility/mocking/hatred expressed with the posters back on the old MMB...
I give him kudos for putting himself out there, but you can't present his case as weakly as he did and expect a lot of sympathy. With that said, yes it did seem to be posted here to be a "hit thread." And, the vitriol and personal attacks are uncalled for. He never called pro-FBSers names, that I could tell. While calling me a name doesn't hurt my feelings, it does show a weakness in the namecaller's persuasion abilities.

Yes, because I'm not lugging that thing all around campus for hours before the game.ASU-FTW wrote:I would not be surprised to see the student seating dynamic change ASAP. Money talks folks..

That's your take. But plenty of schools and fans use these. Besides, you wouldn't have to "lug" it around campus. The schools that incorporate these for season ticket holders typically leave it in your seat for the entire season or have event staff place them in their respective seats on gameday.AppAttack wrote:Yes, because I'm not lugging that thing all around campus for hours before the game.ASU-FTW wrote:I would not be surprised to see the student seating dynamic change ASAP. Actually, they are semi-permanent and remain in place for most of the season. IMG does them for tons of schools. I sent an email to the athletic dept a few years back asking if we were going to do it, too.ASU-FTW wrote:That's your take. But plenty of schools and fans use these. I know I was a regular poster on MMB, but sometimes find it hard to post on here...fjblair wrote:hapapp wrote:I'm pro-FBS and thought the vitriol was uncalled for. Point out the fallacies but name calling is unnecessary.
It's punk. There are some really bitter people on here.
Wonder why most of the regulars on the MMB aren't around? This is why.
This is still a much "friendlier" site than Appfan. Just ignore the bitterness and enjoy the different opinions.vegattk wrote:I know I was a regular poster on MMB, but sometimes find it hard to post on here...fjblair wrote:hapapp wrote:I'm pro-FBS and thought the vitriol was uncalled for. As some say.. I guess it's the cost of "progress"
It's called being a sore loser. Not every thread on this forum is about realignment. The old guard that's too bitter to join the discussion after they didn't get their way will return eventually if they're really true fans. America recovered after the Civil war.vegattk wrote:I know I was a regular poster on MMB, but sometimes find it hard to post on here...fjblair wrote:hapapp wrote:I'm pro-FBS and thought the vitriol was uncalled for. AND!! You don't have to pay $10 a month all of the sudden....Watauga72 wrote:This is still a much "friendlier" site than Appfan. I graduated in 91 big guy so I probably paid the same fees you did assuming you graduated in 92. I am paying student fees now for my daughter who is a third generation mountaineer. So I am hardly a late comer. In fact I was probabaly hanging out in Boone while you were still french kissing your Michael Jordan poster dreaming of being a tarheel. So don't assume everyone who doesn't agree with you is some wet behind the ears bumpkin.GoAppsGo92 wrote:

You also need to pay attention, and because you arrived late, you also need to catch up: The move to FBS... which has been well under way for 3 years, and is about to become reality in ONE WEEK, will NOT be done on the backs of the students. That was the whole point of the feasibility study. It was clear that this move would not occur without a way to make it happen without raising fees. Unlike GSU, there is no need for a vote because there will be no fee increases for an FBS move. GSU's student body voted "YES" to increasing student fees after an FBS conference invite. ASU's students will not have that issue to contend with. Will university fees continue to increase? Sure. They did when I was a student. Will it be for the specific purpose of funding our move to FBS? Absolutely not.
Actually that makes it worse then. Wow.appbio91 wrote:I graduated in 91 big guy so I probably paid the same fees you did assuming you graduated in 92. Not that I don't think we should be able to disagree without name-calling but the posters on the old MMB, while I disagree with some of their opinions, were knowledgeable about the situation. This kid is badly misinformed and has clearly done little to no research.vegattk wrote: It just seemed that there were a few on here that were openly hostile to this poor kid. Why would you respond to that smartassed question? Just call him an idiot and move on. That's how he would he would respond. You put way too much thought into that given the sarcastic nature of the posting you are replying to. You should have left it at the Obama quip, that was on the same level.ASU-FTW wrote:It's telling me Obama won't be re-elected in 2016.Gonzo wrote:What else does your crystal ball say?ASU-FTW wrote:I would not be surprised to see the student seating dynamic change ASAP. But in all seriousness, I'm not prediting it will happen, and I hope that it won't. I just won't be surprised if it happens sooner rather than later. I think some are saying that it won't happen anytime soon simply because they do not want it to happen.
