Re: Mike Houston
I would not want him at this point. His loyalties seem to be fleeting at times. But it sounds like he really screwed Charlotte over.

Re: Mike Houston
Psshhh I still want him. I don’t think we can compete with ECU in a bidding war, though.

We need to hope for a deep JMU playoff run so we can join the fray after our season is over.

Re: Mike Houston
Is Scott actually gone yet? Or is all of what is said here a bit premature? He could easily land a better situation than where Louisville finds themselves and will likely have a close to Preseason Top 25 team in Boone next season.

Re: Mike Houston
No. Not that is official. All of this is speculaiton. My guess is Scott is the (now) first choice for Louisville. It depends on if Scott and family want to uproot their lives for this current opportunity.

Re: Mike Houston
Here is the official release from UNCC:
Charlotte 49ers Withdraw Offer to Mike Houston
Director of Athletics Mike Hill issued the following statement today regarding the head football coaching search:
“Normally, I would not comment on an ongoing search. However, in light of recent public comments, I feel it’s important to update our supporters on the status of our interest in Mike Houston.
This morning we withdrew a contract offer that had been negotiated in good faith with Coach Houston and his representatives. This was based on the fact that last evening, Coach Houston informed us that he had interest in exploring other head coaching opportunities, while remaining under consideration here.
We feel great about our candidate pool and believe this institution, our students, fans and team deserve a head coach that is 100% committed to the Charlotte 49ers.

“We feel great about our candidate pool...”
Hill supposedly canceled all other interviews a couple of days ago. Doubt he’s able to reschedule with his 1st pool of candidates. At best, he’ll be on picks 6-10 and the new coach will know, he’s sloppy seconds. Who is Houston’s agent...Grady Davis? Guy is a savage!

49ers think Houston's agent is the one who leaked the interest to spur ECU or others wanting Houston into action.moonshine wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 4:27 pm“We feel great about our candidate pool...”

Plausible, but also a little far fetched

Re: Mike Houston
ECU put their intentions out there after someone leaked UNCC’s offer to Houston. Houston wanted to let them fight for him, so UNCC pulled the offer to save face because they knew they couldn’t spend more than ECU. Now they’re painting a “loyalty concerns” narrative to save face. If ECU goes another way there is no way they humiliate themselves again by re-offering Houston, and if Satt goes to GT or Louisville, Houston is ours.
What an error. UNCC’s savior from UF might just be another boner just like every other figurehead they’ve had for decades.

Houston could have just as well have done this to us.....moonshine wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 4:27 pm“We feel great about our candidate pool...”

Re: Mike Houston
If he wants to be a P5 head coach in the next 3-5 years he should be a Mountaineer. No one on the outside, really ranks the Group of five conferences, but it is a lot harder to win in the AAC then in the Sun Belt.
App should be @9-2 each of the next few years, with a reasonable chance at a new year's 6 bowl. ECU will be, at best, middle of the pack in the AAC. HIs resume will look MUCH better here.

Re: Mike Houston
I’ve asked this several times with no answers. Is there anyone on the staff that might slide into the coaches role ala Dabo Sweeney?

Re: Mike Houston
Well, the most obvious options would be the coordinators plus AHC Ivey. Swinney was really a unique example - position coach who took over as the interim and wound up as a huge success. Usually those wind up more like, say, Clay Helton at USC.

It’s possible, but the problem is , we don’t know who, if any, assistants he would take with him

Re: Mike Houston
I'm fairly certain I saw that Houston said he wanted to get back closer to home which is Franklin NC. IF he goes to ECU he would be maybe 20 miles closer. I really think he is very interested in our coaching position if Satt leaves. We have alot of talent coming back and a winning tradition. The only thing ECU has to offer is higher pay.
