Hopefully he took a few recruits with him. I'd love to see one more good QB from Florida on the list.

Another interesting hire. I take it he's got the title OC. An FBS position coach usually doesnt leave to be a position coach at an FCS school. In any case, looks like we're spending the $ to get who we want.

Why wouldn't it be announced as the new OC if it were the new OC? Not saying its not the case, jsut wondering.
To me, it's just more writing on the wall that the administration/Satterfield are expecting an FBS move VERY soon. Coaches down't move from pos coach at the FBS level to the same at the FCS level.

Glass,
I am pretty sure he was fired along with Cristobal and Co late last month. Still a good hire and great to have more Florida recruiting ties (especially in Miami).

FIU fired their most productive staff in history, so I dont think it matters that he was fired, thats my opinion anyway.
Gonz, I think Satt. said he was looking for a OC. He may have changed his mind depending on who was available, but he needs someone up in the box regardless. I dont see any of the current offensive staff that I'd rather be up there making calls.

I know he was looking for an OC, I'm just not sure this is his pick. I mean hell, its only on football scoop at this point. Maybe when it goes 100% official the verbiage will change to OC from QB coach. I would be just surprised if someone was hired as a QB coach and ended up in the box calling plays.

He was a WR coach at FIU right? Satterfield started as WR coach, went to RBs, and then was calling plays from the booth in his 5th year at App.

I think he will be the QB coach. Scott said he needed someone "in that room" (the offensive staff room) who knows his philosophy whenever he had to be concerned with head coaching duties. Scott made it clear he would still be in charge of the offense and calling plays.

FS is reporting that he will be the QB's coach at App, not the OC. That's all I'm saying.

I'm pretty sure Scott said he was looking for an offensive coach that shared his philosophy, and to be his voice in offensive meetings when he was unavailable. Scott also said he would remain the primary play-caller. I think the question was phrased as "will you hire an OC," but he never said the person would have the title OC.

Personally, I'd love to see Richie come back in this role but he's blissfully happy doing the NASCAR thing so more power to him!

From Tommy Bowman
Frank Ponce, FIU assistant, will be QB coach and pass-game coordinator at ASU. OL coach Dwayne Ledford promoted to run-game coordinator.
So does this mean we have a....dare I say....committee?

I think it has more to do with game prep duties than play calling. That said, we may have A committee but not THE committee.

why are people freaking out about a committee? We had one during our great run. We got rid of the coaches that caused problems.

Here's the GoASU version.
I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Ledford last year at the Yosef gathering before the SoCon basketball tournament in Asheville. I was quite impressed with him then, and his work during the football season only improved that impression.

"Ponce was also renowned for his recruiting ability during his time at FIU and was honored by ESPN.com as the Sun Belt Conference’s top recruiter in 2010."
If you are going to be in the Sun Belt you may want their top recruiter.

He has tons of ties to talent rich south Florida as he worked his way to FIU through the high school ranks down there. The hire was a little late to have an impact this year but wait till the 2014 recruitung class. I would be shocked if we didnt have 6-8 kids from south FL in next years class. As a wise man once said.....you cant coach speed.......and south FL has got the speed.
