Way too early starters

Unread post by bigdaddyg » Thu Jun 15, 2017 6:35 am

Yep I'm Jonesing for football. Probably because of the countdown thread or the other one about UGA but I'm getting curious. I'm sure one of you guys can give this a shot. What is a best guess for our starting offense and defense and who punts and kicks off? I'm not seeing D. Evans name a lot in regards to weapons used against UGA. Isn't he in the discussion as far as game changers?

Well back to the day job

Gibbs isn't on the team. Stringer will absolutely start.

Now Appdoggy's list makes sense. I'll just make that one my estimate, with a few notes:

-I'd guess the grad transfer Macauley winds up starting somewhere on the OL.

-I expect Hayes and Lewis to ultimately be reinstated and compete for starting spots (though neither was a given to start even before the suspensions).

-I'd guess Townes is nearly a given to start somewhere (either inside or out), and the comp for the 4th LB spot is more among Fehr, Flory and Davis.

-If none of the veterans seize the outside WR spot opposite Meadors early (and I hope Letman or Adams does), I wouldn't be surprised to see Hennigan push for that spot.\

ETA: JohnnyBurrito's was posted while I was writing this, and I think that one's even more on the mark.

Yeah I based mine off of the current roster (even though the Aussie isn't on there). Mccauley and Hayes aren't on there but I definitely agree Hayes will probably start if he gets reinstated. I know next to nothing about Mccauley, but i kind of saw him as more of a depth filler.

I could maybe see Hennigan take that spot but couldn't Virgil take it aswell? I'm not sure he'll be relegated to the slot at 6'2 and he's been in the system for a year.

Trade Evans for Adams and I think you have it right. He needs to be on the field as much as possible.

Someone with more inside info than I could possibly answer this question. Who, among our true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are liable to have the most impact? I.E. like Duck from last year? Moose? Anyone?

I read that as WR2=outside and WR3=slot. I wouldn't expect Evans to be lined up on the outside in many two-receiver sets. Of course our WR depth charts have surprised me before.

Moose might have better answers, and with the true freshmen it's kind of just guessing right now anyway since only a couple were here for spring ball. But from what I've gathered some of the likely candidates are:

RS Fr:

CB Shemar Jean-Charles
WR Jalen Virgil
LB Jordan Fehr

True Fr:

CB D'Andre Hicks
WR Thomas Hennigan
S Ryan Huff
C Noah Hannon

I also think we have several good freshmen at RB and safety, but they might have too many vets ahead of them to get major playing time this year.

I believe Evans needs to be lined up at both. Sure he has the size of a slot receiver but if he can school his route running to become a complete receiver, he could be dangerous anywhere they decide to put him. I personally would like to see a Deltron type role for him save for more routes being run.
