I assume the implication is that the "good" refs are calling the big games on the weekends and we get the backups.

No...I'm pretty sure it is true. I shouldn't have said "implication." I think it is a problem all mid major conferences face.

We faced the same problem in the SoCon, the brand of basketball on the weekends was almost unwatchable due to the number of fouls called. Also hard for players to adjust every other game to that style of play.
