Re: SBC expects third place finish in G5 standings
By my math, SB teams will share $17,000,000 which is $1,545.453/team when divided eleven ways. C-USA finishes last among G5 so they receive $12,333,333 divided among thirteen football schools in 2016 or $948,717/school. A difference of almost $600k/school when comparing SB vs. C-USA.
AAC would split $21,550,000 twelve ways working out to $1,795.833/school.
Share of $35 million looks like this: AAC $11,666,666
MWC $ 9,333,333
SBC $ 7,000,000
MAC $ 4,666,666
USA $ 2,333,333[
Reviewing the numbers really help you understand why the SB should make sure any future football adds would make us able to secure that #3 G5 spot or move up to #2 or #1 in some years. Hard to see any new teams moving the needle on TV/Media rights, but if a new program or two could move the league up in the power rankings at year end it could be financially a good decision.
Clearly, NMSU pulls us down as does Idaho most years. Makes a lot of sense to cut them loose.

Their bowl win contributed to the SBC's strong finish in the G5 sweepstakes.AppDawg wrote:Can't help but think where we would have landed if stAte had of pulled their weight...

Yeah, I guess you could also look at if ULL wins the NO bowl, if we close the deal at Tennessee, etc. Doesn't seem like the gap up to the MWC would be that significant.

It did. But they also were 0-4 going into that game OOC including the conferences only loss to a FCS school.hapapp wrote:Their bowl win contributed to the SBC's strong finish in the G5 sweepstakes.AppDawg wrote:Can't help but think where we would have landed if stAte had of pulled their weight...

Re: SBC expects third place finish in G5 standings
So how much, exactly, will App get? Are there strings attached as to what we are allowed to do with our cut? e.g. can we spend some of it on facilities? can we spend some of it on travel for our recruiters ? do we have to spend a certain proportion on women's sports (Title IX)?AppinVA wrote:Each school will split 7.0 million, up from 2.3 million last year.

Not sure if Idaho and NMSU see any of this, if so it'll go towards their travel reimbursement to the other members.
Bottom line we get half a million more than we would have as a member of CUSA.

Re: SBC expects third place finish in G5 standings
I know Benson has caught a lot of flack, but the league is in much better shape now than it was before he took over. He isn't totally responsible for the success obviously, but he has helped guide the league in the right direction. The school presidents and ads have also made very good decisions, and the teams have come thru on the field. We're in a very solid position as a league and school right now.

Re: SBC expects third place finish in G5 standings
The SBC got lucky, CUSA took some dead weight is the FXUs and North Texas vs taking the better programs, then CUSA opted for markets over successful programs and App and GS fell in the SBCs lap.
But I do believe in creating luck and Benson worked hard to convince App and GS it would be a good move, Cobb wasn't high on the idea 18 months before we accepted the invite.

Re: SBC expects third place finish in G5 standings
There really is no gap in head to head. The Sun Belt held a 4-3 advantage over the MWC in 2016. Granted 3 of the 4 W's came from the 2 programs exiting the league after 2017.TractorApp wrote:Yeah, I guess you could also look at if ULL wins the NO bowl, if we close the deal at Tennessee, etc. Doesn't seem like the gap up to the MWC would be that significant.

Cobb was an idiot to say what he did. Glad he didnt screw us over for a long time by turning them down.Saint3333 wrote:The SBC got lucky, CUSA took some dead weight is the FXUs and North Texas vs taking the better programs, then CUSA opted for markets over successful programs and App and GS fell in the SBCs lap.

Re: SBC expects third place finish in G5 standings
Karl used to guide the old WAC and they were a nice conference and placed one team in the old BCS. I like what we have in place for leadership, in time CUSA will join the Sun Belt to make a regional super conference and redefine the term G5/

Yes it is. It runs about 20 positive to one negative, especially before he left.appst89 wrote:No, it's not.NewApp wrote:Wow! You said something negative about AD Charlie Cobb. Somebody that never had a nice thing to say about Charlie Cobb. Apparently at some point Charlie beat him up and stole his lunch money...or worse.NewApp wrote:Who was he?CVAPP wrote:Are you trying to bring IGgreer out of retirement?NewApp wrote: Yes it is.
