Rank App State movement
I have noticed that we have had a somewhat effective Rank App State campaign on Twitter. I saw a lot of people posting the hashtag on twitter and people seem to think we have a decent shot. With the bowl games done, what are your thoughts on if we end the season in the top 25?
I think it's a long shot but we have a chance.

Re: Rank App State movement
No chance. I'd be happy to crack double-digit points in either poll. Last season we finished with 7 in AP, 9 in the coaches' poll.
Re: Rank App State movement
In the AP there are 18 teams between us and number 20. Of those 18 teams 9 lost their Bowl Game but 9 Won their Bowl game so I can't see any way for us to climb 13 slots because of Bowl results.

Honestly, we don't really deserve it tbh. It would be awesome and I'd love to see it happen, but in order for a team from the sun belt to get ranked normally you're gonna have to go flawless in conference play and beat a team from a p5 conference. We did neither of those things. I'm not trying to be a hater, just calling it like it is. Had we beaten Tennessee I absolutely think we would be in there, but we didn't. Getting shellacked by Miami and losing to Troy doesn't help our case either.

We don't deserve it this season. Maybe next year.
Winning, not whining, is the way to get ranked.

Re: Rank App State movement
Geez. A lot of debbie downers. Troy hit #25 immediately after barely beating us. We were a mainstay in the receiving votes category all season long. We are gaining respect.
Plus, most of the teams ahead of us in receiving votes and #23-#25 all lost to 6-6 teams in their bowl games.
Do I expect to be ranked? No, but I wouldn't be surprised. Let's promote it and see where we land. Afterall, we are one of only 26 teams with a double digit win total.
Another way to look at it, will WMU be the only G5 ranked? If not, who is the other 1 or 2 that sneak un? I think we are in that conversation and have a worthy resume. Boise & Houston lost their last 2, Temple lost to Wake.
The 2 we look out for is WKU and San Deigo State (though they have a bad loss to S. Bama). I like our chances.

Re: Rank App State movement
I don't think we're being Debbie Downers, just realistic. When Troy was ranked they had one loss, by six at Clemson. Once they got that second (and third) loss, they were long gone.
I actually don't think any G5s besides WMU will be ranked.

Re: Rank App State movement
I'm not a Debbie Downer either but I think diehardapp 18 nails it. App had a great year and hopefully next year will be even better as we continue to grow and transition but gotta win some of those P5 contests to rank. Beat either UT or the U and we are probably in. The beatdown at home by the U is a ranking killer for a G5 when combined with a G5 loss. That said I expect us to finish in the Top 35 which would be a great achievement.diehardapp18 wrote:Honestly, we don't really deserve it tbh. Re: Rank App State movement
Not sure if it matters to voters or not but all 3 losses App suffered this season came at the hands of ranked teams or a team who was ranked at some point in the season. Both Miami and UTenn were receiving votes in the AP, the Vols were ranked #21 in the CFP Poll and #23 in the Coaches poll at the end of the season. Troy got ranked the week after beating App. With all 3 winning their bowl games, UTenn will most likely be ranked in at least one poll and the U may sneak in at least one poll. Troy should finish in the top 40-45. Unfortunately, I think going 2-3 against teams that will probably be ranked in the top 50 will hurt App's chances of cracking the top 25 in any poll.

Re: Rank App State movement
We should not be ranked. We won all the games this year we were supposed to win. This is why OOC games are going to be so important year in and year out as we play in a notoriously weak conference. We stepped it up this year but we will get no respect until we start knocking out P5 opponents.
I saw the Twitter/Instagram post earlier this week comparing the in state schools (Carolina, NC State, Wake, etc) against our record this year. I really wish we would stop doing that as everyone knows good and well we are at the top by numbers only and you get comments from people outside the program stating "got waxed by Miami on their own field" or "play in the ACC and see what your record would be" blah blah. It's pointless, no reason to beat our chest when you look at the 10-3 record and see what opponents we beat. Start next year with beating Wake, playing Georgia tough and bulldozing the rest of the schedule. Build off years like that and people will start to take notice.

Posted this elsewhere, but I think the point of those posts is not necessarily to convince people, but to bait them into giving us some publicity and maybe eventually scheduling us.QueencityApp wrote:We should not be ranked. Re: Rank App State movement
Well based on record optics, App was the best team in NC. The next highest win total (8) goes to UNC who had 2 wins against FCS programs. Matter of fact, App is the only FBS program in the state who did not play a FCS team this season. App will gladly play any and all teams in the ACC, they simply need to pick up the phone. Duke, NCSU, UNC and ECU all have openings coming up in their future schedule. If they want to shut us up, they have the chance. Until then we can thump our chest. Other fans can say what they want but until their team schedules App, I couldn't care less what they have to say.

What good are final post season rankings? They don't carry over to the next season. Been almost 20 years since the final rankings crowned the mythical national champ.

They make a whole lot more sense than the pre-season rankings. Other than that, bragging rights./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:What good are final post season rankings?

Re: Rank App State movement
I totally agree...Pre-season are pointless, however after that games can be played to see the movement up and down. Post-season as you pointed out is likely for bragging rights and to give ESPN something to talk about on LeBron's off nights.TheMoody1 wrote:They make a whole lot more sense than the pre-season rankings.
