Welcome to the Black and Gold !!

We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: New Asistant Baseball Coach
Johnson must be good; Smith has kept him for seven years. Is he replacing someone or is he an addition? IMHO, we need to hang on to Aspegren, the pitching coach.
Britt Johnson enters his seventh season with the Bearcat baseball program. Johnson has worked on the staff since 2010 and has served as the infield coach and 3rd base coach for the past six seasons, while serving as recruiting coordinator since 2013. He has developed eight All-Peach Belt infielders during his time in Greenwood. Lander has averaged 7.8 runs per game in Johnson's tenure.
The 2016 Bearcats turned 42 double plays with a .964 fielding percentage. The Bearcats led the Peach Belt Conference with 94 home runs, hitting four in four games at the College World Series. Lander's infield was anchored by senior first baseman Colby Lusignan and senior second baseman Will Jones, both of whom were selected in the 28th round of the MLB Draft.
The 2015 season saw the Bearcats lead the PBC in double plays turned with 46 on the year. Lander ranked 20th in the nation in double plays per game.
In the 2014 season, Johnson's infield helped the Bearcats lead the Peach Belt with a .971 fielding percentage. Lander turned 62 double plays as the Bearcats advanced to the College World Series. The Bearcats scored 560 runs on the season, more than any other team in college baseball. The 2014 infield featured senior shortstop Erik Lunde, who was joined by first baseman Connor Lewis and second baseman Graham Ramos as first team All-PBC selections. Lunde was an 18th round pick and the No. 551 overall selection by the Pittsburgh Pirates, one of three different Bearcats to be drafted in 2014.
The 2013 Bearcats turned 52 double plays and fielded at a .963 clip on the year. Lunde and Ramos were both named to the All-PBC second team.
Lander recorded fielding percentages of .965 in 2011 and 2012. The Bearcats turned 34 doubles plays in Johnson's first season and 41 the following year.
A native of Rocky Mount, N.C., Johnson is a 2007 graduate of East Carolina University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and was a long snapper on the Pirates' football team.
During his college tenure, Johnson spent his summers coaching AAU and Babe Ruth baseball 13, 14, and 15 year old teams and was named an All-Star coach in 2003, 2004, and 2007. In those seasons the teams won two state championships, had one regional appearance, and a third-place finish in the Babe Ruth World Series.
In August 2008, Johnson joined the staff at Nash Central High School in Rocky Mount, where he taught health/PE and coached football and baseball.
In the summer of 2009, Johnson led the Nash Central Junior Legion baseball team to the Junior Legion State Championships. The following summer he was an assistant on the Rocky Mount Post 58 American Legion team that also reached the State Championships.
Johnson married the former Samantha Vickers, who played soccer at Lander from 2009-12, in August of 2015.

Smith tweeted a while back that Aspegren has agreed to stay on staff.

I've known Britt for a long time now. Great guy that apparently has turned into a very good recruiter. I know he is excited to be in Boone.
