Rest In Peace to the man who is the reason I was born. My dad and mom were huge fans.

I entered APP as a frosty in the fall semester of 1983, 2 months +- out of high school. Prince, Def Leppard and Dire Straits, and several species of dinosaurs ruled the landscape back then, or soon after. I may have left out some influential musicians of the time, but Prince was definitely one of them. May he rest in peace. Today the doves are crying.

Couldn't stand him in my middle age. Now that I'm retired and not so judgmental, I discovered how good his music is.

I had all intentions of being Morris Day for Halloween this year. Might switch that to Prince.

RIP Prince. I guess it is timely that I just happen to watch Purple Rain last weekend. How many people thought his motorcycle was the thing back in 1984?

I wasn't a huge fan in the 80s - did like several of his songs - if retired I'm guessing you are in your 60s, what music did you like back in those days? ---

Getting to be a tough time for us folks in our early 50's who are fans of 70's and 80's music. I wasn't a huge fan of Prince but I get a little nostalgic when I hear his music. Takes me back to fun times at App in the early 80's. Even though the music of our generation is timeless it is tough to think that the Eagles, Bowie and now Prince are done (some gone).

Was at ASU from 72-76 so yes, am very old. Wasn't a big Prince fan but watched the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame tribute to George Harrison where a group led by Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Steve Winwood performed While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Prince finished it off with an incredible guitar performance that made the whole thing worth watching. Was stunned by his musicianship. Watch it if you get a chance.

Saw Dire Straits in concert at Block Buster Pavilion in Charlotte. Great low key show. No theatrics.

Always loved Beach Music (the Ocean Drive version not Beach Boys). That and Motown, Santana, and Doc Watson tapes/cd's in my car in the 80's. In '85 got transferred to Philadelphia and grew so sick of hearing the hard grating accents up there, I turned to country music and Nascar just to hear people who sounded normal! Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, No Show Jones, Conway Twitty, Reba, Alabama, and Allison Krause were added.

Pretty much stayed this way until I retired. Now, my iPhone is loaded with many different types of music including Prince, Michael Crawford, Glenn Miller, Amy Winehouse, America, rock from 70's-80's, Muddy Waters, John Coltrane, my old favorites and so much more.

With you there --- Motown and Beach were my favorites and of course some of the British like The Stones, then I transformed more to Chicago, Crosby-Stills-Nash, Jim Morrison, etc. - never was so "desperate" to go full country and NASCAR :) - Did really like Johnny Cash

I have a new favorite. Give a listen to Mike Farris. Album, Shine For The People, is great. He will be at Merlfest, Watson Stage, on Friday night. He sings the gospel!
