Re: David Jackson Resigns
It's going to be strange not having David on air, but nobody can fault him for wanting to be with his family more. He bleeds black and gold, and he gave it everything he had. I'm sure he will be successful going forward.
Gillin should have many ties going back to his IMG days that will help to find a replacement.

Since David started the good parts of the App State culture have remained while many of the Laney era culture aspects have disappeared, thankfully.PhillyApp1 wrote:I think we have officially completed the transition process to FBS.

Re: David Jackson Resigns
David was a Laney hire. Along with Pollard. Arguably two of the best to come though Appalachian in the past decade. Outside of Jim Fox, who has Charlie hired that has been so great?

I'm sad but also glad DJ is able to be in a position that he can walk away and be at peace with his decision. He's done so much for arguably too little pay for a long time.

Re: David Jackson Resigns
DJ started out as our radio guy back when he was a student and kept that role until later when he was made an Associate AD. He just kept doing the play-by-play after that.Nugget49 wrote:Good luck replacing Jackson, clearly he was a big part of the App game day experience. It seems odd to me that you had an Associate AD calling games. That seems like the most expensive way possible to pay for that role. Do other schools do it this way? I know that Charlotte and Davidson each have long-time media people that get paid just for the games. Will App look to replace him with another staff member?

Re: David Jackson Resigns
Feels like we lost a family member. It will be very strange not hearing DJ's voice on gameday. Selfishly I wanted my son to grow up hearing DJ on the broadcast and have him retire from the Black n Gold when he was 89 years old. Not that I need one but I guess I have a reason to go home and pour some out for DJ. Maybe he'll surprise us and come back in 10-15 years to take back his position after he's made his millions. I definitely tip my cap in DJ's direction for all he's done for App.

Go to the 6:05 mark and play from there.

I had a proud moment that David shared with App Nation last fall, on Saturday evening QB..... He was the only voice of the Mountaineers I have ever known.

I hate to hear this, but I'm not surprised. He will do great things, and I wish the best for him. Luckily for us we have someone, in Gillin, who has the contacts to get us a professional PBP guy, with a professional voice and delivery.

Re: David Jackson Resigns
I am both heartbroken and happy. Heartbroken that I'll no longer hear "Ballgame At The Rock!" and "Touchdown Black and Gold"; but happy for David to find the balance he needs for a growing family. I've got to admit I have been concerned about him suffering burnout over the years of the Transition. I often wondered when he found the time to do "Around The Mountain", Mountaineer Talk, broadcast the games, do the administrative part of the job and then have a life!!
I'm glad that David now has time to have a life. But, Lord have mercy I'll miss him. I have told David on several occasions that my favorite of all of his calls was the one after Miracle on the Mountain 2, the James Madison fumble where with a raising pitch in his voice he said "And the Mountaineers move ON!" That call STILL sends chills down my spine when I replay it.
David if you read this please know you are loved and will be missed. (Ill especially miss you and Brownie together.) I have told my wife that the the Holy Trinity of App State football is Jerry Moore, Dexter Coakley and Armanti Edwards. I'll now have to add you to the list and make it the Holy Quartet.
God bless you and your family Sir!!! I salute you from the bottom of my Mountaineer heart as does my wife Caroline who likewise loved hearing your voice and sends her best wishes.

DJ,
Please know how very much that you touched App Nation over the years. Like others have said, from the Miracle on the Mountain to the yard sale at the big house (yeah, I know that part was Brownie), we have loved all that you have had to offer. You will truly be missed ! Please stop by and tailgate with some of us if you are in the area. You are the best !

Re: David Jackson Resigns
I will miss David so much. He was not only the best in North Carolina, but one of the best in the business. Big shoes to fill for his replacement. He gave me the opportunity to sit in the booth for a game with him in 2014 and to serve as a spotter for a game while Harrison Battle was at a basketball game in 2015. He's a big reason that I'll be pursuing a broadcasting degree when I begin my college career at Appalachian in the Fall. David, if you read this, we all will miss you so very much, and we are so thankful to have had you here for so long. The only play by play announcer I ever knew for App State Football.

Re: David Jackson Resigns
Hope David reads all of these. Wish the university would do some kind of tribute at first home game. Driving back down the mountain after a game will not be the same...
Best to him.
