First thing they need to do is move the flag pole which obstructed the scoreboard view for much of he App State section. That was my biggest complaint from that game. Well except maybe the rain. Very pleased with the result.

If they go that route, they would need a total overhaul, which it looks like is what is being proposed. The site is pretty good (on-campus), but the stadium itself is basically a high school stadium with a luxury tower slapped on one end.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that proposal for ODU's stadium renovations is kind of ugly. On one side of the stadium, you have two levels. On the opposite side, you have three levels. In one endzone, you have two levels and in the other, you have no seating whatsoever. If you think Kidd Brewer Stadium is piecemealed together, then what would you call this? That is the definition of renovating piece by piece. They would be smart to start from scratch and play in another nearby stadium for a few years while construction took place in the same location.

With the exception of Norfolk State, which needs that stadium for its own team, there is no nearby field.

I am amazed at how so many of the teams in Conference USA have facilities that are like this. UNCC is a prime example, and let's not forget the situation at Coastal. Here is a quality program with an awesome stadium. Liberty. http://www.liberty.edu/flames/?PID=14874&TeamID=9

my fellow West BY GOD Virginian you will open up the firing range with a mention of Liberty --- Most of us initially felt JMU would be a good addition but they seem to have ZERO interest ---

I have no problem with Liberty as a program in football. No denying their facilities or team. I just can't get behind their hypocritical religious views. But that's another topic for another site.

As for JMU... I think they didn't join the Sun Belt because they wanted to wait for a bigger opportunity. Not much television market in Harrisonburg, but it's the fastest growing town/city in the Commonwealth I ooo so love. Eventually they will join. Until then, their heads will be up their own asses.

I'd love to see a relationship with JMu and App State like we used to have in football, and even basketball in the late 90s and early 2000s. I remember being in high school (20 minutes from Harrisonburg) and attending an App vs JMU bball game in HBurg. Shawn Hall was a beast, and impresses with his dunk as a 5'8" player. Then you had Jonathan Mitchell who had Vince Carter type hops.

Good rivalries develop from two programs being competitive with one another (AppState and GaSo) and from some fan overlap (AppState and WCU). Therefore good rivalries could develop between ODU and JMU but this would be best facilitated in playing one another annually which would be best achieved as conference rivals. The same with AppState and Charlotte. ODU and JMU should be in the same conference. AppState and Charlotte should be in the same conference. It is possible that we develop a rivalry with Costal, but since they are out of state there is little fan overlap. GaSo has GaSt as a budding rivalry as they have us as their nemesis. An in state rival would be fun and could become huge.

$124 million sounds like a bad deal. The layout depicted in drawing looks very poor to only achieve 25,000 seats. This looks like a very poor approach for ODU. In addition, it looks like it locks them into about 35k max seating with this approach. If I were them I would look for some other options.

As a comparision, UCF built their stadium for $55M for approx. 45,000 seats with design foundation that can support expansion to 65,000 seats.

I believe one of the major problems for ODU is available space...
