Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
Good to see Georgia Southern working hard to ramp up their home non-conference schedule through 2018.

Wow. If they win those games, they should be a lock for a top four seed in the FCS Playoffs. Yeesh.

Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
I'd be embarrassed if that was our schedule. They have the following FBS programs at home on future schedules: UMass, Kent St. THAT'S IT.
App - Miami, ODU, Wake, Arkon, S. Miss, UNCC, UMass, Marshall - thank you AD office!

Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
well, if you believe GS fans, their AD is calling every P5 school, 24/7 trying to land a h/h. Kinda of a divisive point with their fans, some are upset that they cant land a P5 school, and are tired about playing Savanna States of the world, and others are just fine playing 2 or 3 FCS teams. It is funny though, that alot of GS fans are critical of us signing up Wake Forest, basically saying WF is so bad, we should be proud of signing a h/h with them, but we all know if the roles were reversed, they would be telling the world what a big deal it is to have WF coming to Statesboro.

These are the same fans who have spent months begging Vanderbilt to come play them, no?moehler wrote:well, if you believe GS fans, their AD is calling every P5 school, 24/7 trying to land a h/h. Forget a P5 school - they won't even schedule a decent G5.
Of course according to their AD, every team in the country is just skeered to play them because a few years ago they beat a 4-8 SEC team.

And don't forget they have a run game so terrifying the boogie man would be skeert to face 'em. Not that hard to have a top run game when you never throw it.

Who could resist the cultural epicenter of Statesboro, Gnatfest 2016, the Honey Boo Boo Museum, and sunbathing by picturesque Eagle Creek? I guess almost everyone.

Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
I'm not really surprised at this. Appalachian State is just making better moves than Georgia Southern is. Plus side is that we have a much more interesting and beautiful place to visit, I don't think I will ever hear in my life "Wow, Statesboro was gorgeous to visit. All these gnats weren't much of a bother, and that smelly creek all the rednecks bathe in was a great site." What is hard to believe, is that the only G5 team coming in is UMass in 2018, beating G5 teams will boast their attendance and their rankings, do they think that FCS teams are going to help attendance factors?

Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
I think this schedule has more to do with their need for revenue- hence all the P5 road games.
We ramped up and prepared for years for our move up. They, from what I know, just decided they didn't want to be left behind by us and contacted the sunbelt.
I do believe no one wants to play them. Who wants their knees chopped at for four quarters.

My guess is that P5's and most others don't want to waste a week prepping for a quirky offense they will only see once; especially if they have to play it away from home.APPdiesel wrote:And don't forget they have a run game so terrifying the boogie man would be skeert to face 'em. If that were the case no ooc team would ever schedule Georgia Tech.appstate77 wrote:My guess is that P5's and most others don't want to waste a week prepping for a quirky offense they will only see once; especially if they have to play it away from home.APPdiesel wrote:And don't forget they have a run game so terrifying the boogie man would be skeert to face 'em. Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
i enjoyed the GS AD article, any time someone in leadership is able to explain reasoning behind decisions is a good thing.

Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
good article, and I get what he is saying about P5 schools, but it doesn't explain, nor excuse, the reason why they cant land a quality G5 school. After this year, their next G5 school is UMass in 2018....UMass in two freckin years?!!! Really!!! GS fans can make excuses, but If this happen to App, I would be pissed, and would want to know whats going on.

Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
If the idea is just to get that extra "win" to increase their chances of getting into a bowl, I get it. It won't cost them too much money, and it'll pay off at the end of the year if they land in a bigger bowl game. What would make me most upset, is not playing a decent G5 team. I love App football, but if we had all or most of our OOC home games as FCS, it'd be hard for me to drive up on a week day (not so much on a weekend if I wanted to go really badly) to watch the game, I'd rather sit comfortably at home.
I do think their AD is trying his butt off, but I stick with my original statement. No one wants to visit the stink.

Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
Q: Why is it that App State - who moved up the same year, to the same league, plays in a similarly sized stadium in an even more remote small town - can sign home-and-homes with Miami, Wake Forest, Marshall, Southern Miss and assorted other regional G5 programs, and Southern hasn't done any of that? Not to mention all the other Sun Belt teams who have had similar scheduling success, or recent move-ups Old Dominion and Charlotte?
