What happens regarding the University of Non Compliance and the biggest academic fraud scandal of all time greatly affects Appalachian State. It's a HUGE news story about an in-state school. This thread has over 400 posts. Clearly YC users want to discuss the issue and share information.
It's been confined to one thread for a year now. Is it really that hard to not click?

Shizz about to get realz in Chapel Hillz. Not looking good...for them at least. Gottlieb referring to Hubert Davis taking over for Roy at the end of the coupled with NCAA sanctions coming down around the same time is too coincidental. Also, word is UNC is self imposing a 1 year postseason ban on football and basketball and that the NCAA is not going to accept. If true, it's interesting that UNC would self-impose in basketball when they have been propagating that basketball was not named in the NOA.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
Bubba wants to put ban on WOMEN"S ball! because it will not matter - they are not going to qualify for NCAA this year anyway. He can't because they are not mentioned specifically in NOA.
Gottlieb was trying to sound as if he had a scoop. Roy has several years left on contract and will most likely fill them, he has been dealing with vertigo for nearly 10 years.

If any of the sports that are in trouble, it will be the women's basketball team for sure. Public opinion suggest the investigation has taken too long, but knowing the length of the academic fraud spanning over 11 years seems to justify the time needed to thoroughly examine all wrongdoings and the possible sanctions associated with each infraction.

The real deal is that nobody cares. Touchdowns count not degrees. To pay coaches the amount of money we pay them and not expect this is just plain naive.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
Anyone who says only women's basketball was mentioned in the NOA has not read the NOA. Was Roy's name specifically mentioned in the NOA, no it wasn't.
But there's this from Allegation #5: "This allowed individuals within ASPSA to use these
courses through special arrangements to maintain the eligibility of academically
at-risk student-athletes, particularly in the sports of football, men's basketball and
women's basketball."
Additionally, men's basketball was mentioned numerous times through the factual supporting evidence for each allegation, though the actual allegation did not specifically address men's basketball in the 1st 4 level 1 allegations.
It should also be pointed out, that regardless if Roy knew (he did), one should look no further than the recent sanctions levied on UL-Lafayette and the coach's level of knowledge. That did not protect them, they were hit harshly and their infractions were miniscule compared to that of UNC.

At UL Lafayette, the school and the NCAA found no evidence that Hudspeth or any other assistants knew what the rogue assistant was doing, which was directing potential recruits to an ACT testing site that could get them a high grade, plus a couple instances of giving recruits money.

Ouch! You mean Hudspeth didn't know and they got punished all the same? Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
I would be shocked if the Heels got more than a "wrist slap", at worst, they will make the WBB the scapegoat and the big programs will receive little if any punishment. You can make the argument that the NCAA is dragging their feet, hoping people will just forget about this, and they will bury the results and punishment on the back page of the sports page. One interesting argument from some Heel fans, is since this wasn't just limited to the athletic dept, but involved the entire University, it was therefore an academic problem, not athletic, and the NCAA doesn't have the grounds to sanction the athletic dept. In my view, pretty weak argument, but I wouldn't be surprised if some argument like that is presented, and it lessens the punishment or even gets them out of this mess.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
I don't believe the NCAA will go down the path of a wrist slap after doling out recent punishments to SMU, Syracuse and UL-Lafayette for far less. That would be signing their own death warrant. UNC has lost a majority of their friends in the NCAA due to providing them with misinformation and the way that they have attempted to propagate, cover-up, and deny wrong-doing. They have become lepers to all those in powerful positions that used to be able to get them out of situations and they no longer have the support needed to avoid the thunder coming their way. I've just put my Orville Redenbacher in the microwave. I suggest you do the same.
Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
there is a big difference between SMU, ULL, and UNC. There is a double standard between the P5 schools and the GS schools. The NCAA has shown they have no problem coming down hard on the mid majors, but will go easy on the P5 schools for the same infractions. Bottom line is UNC is a money maker, flagship program, and a very powerful voice in collage athletics, the last thing the NCAA wants to do is come down so hard on the Heels, deserved or not, that they cant generate the kind of revenue the NCAA is accustomed to seeing.

May have been a typo but let's go with a Freudian slip. Whenever NCAA violations are discussed our buddies to the SE are always in our thoughts.moehler wrote:between the P5 schools and the GS schools.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
This will only end if UNC gets punished appropriately. There is still more prongs out there not included in previous punishments or in the current NOA that the media/UNC enemies will be more than happy to pursue should they not get punished appropriately which would only drag this out further and further tarnish what reputation remains. However, it should not be an issue. Removal of banners, vacating wins, multi-season postseason ban and significant loss of scholarships over 2-4 years.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
I am very excited for the day Carolina gets no punishment and we go back to talking about Appalachian. We are acting like NC State and it is embarrassing.
