Fox has shared with me that he and McKillop disagreed once regarding whether or not to foul at that point. I think if the situation is going to give a guy a better look, closer to the basket, you definitely foul. But, the dude hit a 40 footer. I think in that scenario, you take your chances. The true aberration is the official being convinced that a foul occurred on that shot.
I get that there are different philosophies in that scenario but I would have fouled him or the other ball handler before they were even in position to shoot. I read somewhere that in those situations about 20% of the time, the 3 is made. The other scenario results in a team making the first foul shot, missing the second on purpose, getting the rebound and scoring to tie the game about 5% of the time. Of course, I've never coached a game of basketball in my life. :?

Anyway, it is done and the team hopefully can pick themselves up and have a successful road trip against a couple of squads that they can defeat.

Cant argue with that. The split was pretty even, 32/27. If officiating is going to bad on a given night, at least it was consistently awful. I know that's not much to hang our hat on. This was a 68% FT shooting team coming in, in GS, that shot 80% against us, and we had way too many live ball turnovers, and our only fast break points of the night came on Lawson's dunk.

And they took better advantage than we did. While we shot more FTS than they did, they made more. So despite that, we failed to take advantage of that set of circumstances. In the end, we let the game get away from us down the stretch with TOs and a shot clock violation.

This team has shown some resiliency this season hopefully that will be the case on the upcoming road trip.

After seeing the CBS video, I agree with this. It was definitely a dive by the GS shooter and shouldn't have been called, but Burgess made a no-win play there - didn't contest the shot, but put his hand on the shooter which allowed for the foul call.

College game has gotten diluted with too many fouls, too many time outs and over coaching of too many possessions. I don't know if I have ever seen a game end like this before. There have been games that have been tied or won/lost with last second heaves but I don't recall one being lost due to a four point play.

Good ol' ESPN's highlights say, in Southern Conference action. Need to get up to date.

Also, I always hate when a team allows the other team to come up the court in those situations without any pressure. Get on them from the inbounds pass and don't allow them to get into a smooth shooting motion, make it off balance.

“You can’t put that game on that last play,” he (Eaves) said. “You can put it on every play leading up to that, in that minute segment, we turned it over a few times, we didn’t get rebounds we should have got."

http://www.journalnow.com/sports/asu/ba ... 9d97e.html

In the end, it wasn't the last play that killed us, it was how we played the last minute or so with a 6 point lead that we let slip away.
