Truly devastating news. Way too young. Thinking of his family.

I love the idea of retiring his number. He gave so much for App State.

I'm not sure if they'll retiree his number, but I believe he should receive a waiver and get added to next year's HOF class.

I did not know Coach Clark and have never even said hello to him. I admired him from afar. Knowing he was a West BY GOD Virginian gave me a different kind of connection. I have continued to read all the wonderful comments about him from those who knew him well. I have been around enough decades to comprehend "the way of the sports world" but from the bottom of my heart I still have a nagging pain - Should winning more games take precedence over every thing else???

This is awful. Coaches are under such immense stress at all levels and it no doubt weighs on them heavily. Way too young.

It is appalling and very disappointing that there was an inappropriate post in the first place. Some people just need swift kick in the arse.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

We never know what the future holds, even the immediate future. So there is an impetus to live right while we are here. I’ve lived way longer than I deserve and it hurts to see a guy with so much left to give go home. Prayers for the family.

Shawn was a good man, loved his family, and had a soft heart. He is with The Lord, "Well done, my good and faithful servant".

This is heartbreaking. My prayers are with his family and friends. Life is precious and not certain. I help lead a youth group and I told my boys this last night. With all that has been happening, there are no guarantees. Love your families like never before. Love will heal.

man this is rough. Last I heard he was getting better. One of us, two time All America.

I take solace in his faith and knowing where he is, and who he is with. My prayers will continue for his family. I can't imagine his shock. Bring them back to Boone so that we may show our love, respect, and gratitude.
