Re: At least we're in good company
A-State was the better team Thursday and I have no problem saying that. I do think we have been the better team over the course of the season, and any statistical ranking you can find (including those that factor in SoS) will back that up.
All credit to A-State, they outplayed us and they're going to win the league title. And that's what matters, not who any of us say is better.
But App State can compete on even footing with any team or program in the Sun Belt, right now.

appst89 wrote:We might be the best team when we are at full strength. Unfortunately, we will never know that. We were quite obviously not the better team Thursday night. We are hurt and our offense is a shell of what it was because of it. We are still a good team and can still have a special season, but we have to realize that we still don't have the FBS depth we need to overcome the injuries we have sustained this season. I hope the coaches can piece together something that will allow us to rebound from this and get back on track.
Best post in this thread. 4 weeks ago, we win with our dominant line imo, now, we are looking at some really tough games. Sucks, but it is what is is.

Well that makes about as much sense as the best team lost.ASUTodd wrote:You should have been a politician.

You are what your record says you are......and 7-2 is not bad; 10-2 would be better.

Re: At least we're in good company
to the person who said the game wasn't as close as the score indicates, I disagree. Ark State pulled away in the second half, but without our fumbles, they wouldn't have scored a TD in the first half. We spotted them 14 points, and that cost us a ton of momentum. Mistakes (fumbles and penalties) cost us this game. That's part of the game, so I'm not trying to beat anybody up. My point is that those things are FIXABLE.
Ark State took Troy's lead and used the hurry up offense to keep our Defense vanilla. That weakness was exposed at Troy, but the short week gave us very little time to fix the issue. I imagine that Woody it working hard to implement a "hurry up" D to counter this so that we can get some pressure on the QBs again and hopefully seal off those running lanes. I'm sure that's not an easy fix. That being said, it's not like every team has the ability to play that offense. If you're not set up for it, you can't just flip a switch.
I think our remaining games will be tough, but it's not like we are suddenly the underdog. I believe we will see a fresher and re-focused App at Idaho. Our young backups will continue to improve and we will finish strong.

Re: At least we're in good company
I think if anything, injuries and fatigue did us in. Ark State had QB injuries earlier in the year which gave them problems if I understand correctly.
And it's not like an upset that the perennial big dog of the SBC came in and beat us. Although I still think they should have to play Georgia Southern, for some reason or another this is the second year they've avoided the stink, yet we've had to play both of them.
The season isn't a bust. We're bowl eligible and winning out the regular season is still a realistic goal. Idaho is a team that can beat you if you're not paying attention, ULL is having a lot of problems and USA...I don't know what to think about them. They beat us last year so it's not out of the realm they can take us to task. I do feel better about the 3OT win over Troy seeing how they decimated ULM this past weekend. How they fare this weekend against Georgia Southern at home will make for an interesting game I predict.
All things considered, a 7-2 record is nothing to scoff at. And who knows. Arky State can get cocky and ULM, New Mexico State or Texas State could come in out of nowhere and beat them. And then all of a sudden we're back in the conference hunt.

FYI, someone that doesn't know the difference between climate and weather should keep quiet. The fact you see a contradiction reveals you don't know what you're talking about. Leave it to the scientists.

Avoid notifying me by not using the quote function, I see. And judging from the holier-than-thou tenor of your post, you must be a joy at parties. I was going for a one liner, more than anything else, but whatever. I'm well aware of the difference between climate and weather. But it goes both ways. Every time it's a little dry in July in the south, an F5 tornado takes out an entire town in Kansas, or a Cat 3 hurricane spins off the coast of Hatteras, don't tell me it's because of climate change. No, just like you said, it's weather. It seems both sides use weather to fit their narrative when it's convenient to do so. But, I am going to hazard a guess and assume that's okay when the shoe is on the other foot.App1990 wrote:"We live in a world where record cold is blamed on global warming. So...yeah."

Okay, this is going off on a political tangent. If it keeps going, the thread is getting nuked. Just letting everyone know.
