Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
Screw Eric Church. I lost respect for him over the past year as an alum; the guy never talks about his Alma mater as much as he should. All i ever read is him talking about UNC. I mean hes even wearing an Ole Miss shirt in the photo on the Forbes link.

Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
He came to the Clemson game and did another interview with David Jackson earlier this year.
Great music and has offered many times to help App, this is a special place for him and the hate is misguided. So now you've read about some positives things he's done for App.

Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
He approached App about doing the video entrance in 2013. Maybe if it hadn't been rejected so badly by our fan base, he might be more outwardly supportive.
He was at the Clemson game rocking App stuff

Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
Why should he go out of his way to mention us....? Didn't he create the intro for the football team to use the other year, and people bitched and moaned so much about "change" on here? So instead we continue to use a intro with a quote from a movie by a guy that doesn't even know what Appalachian is.....I am sure EC appreciated that.
Remember he was at the Clemson game and spoke to DJ at the half....but I guess that didnt fuel your hate, so it is irrelevant

Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
Eric is like many other App alums. They love App and Boone but have a "Real" team that they support. Can you imagine the dismay if he had said I pull for App State when the guys on college game day asked him who his team was? App State? Oh yea that's where you went to college; but who do you pull for? As I said he is not the only one, I went to the Clemson game with 6 App alumns (one was a 4 year varsity cheerleader) all showed up decked out in their Clemson best. "Oh yea but Clemson is my real team". Made me sick.

One of the hottest music professionals in the past five years came on the radio broadcast (vs. Clemson) and TV (vs. Howard) to spent time telling App nation how much he enjoyed his time in Boone and how special the place is to him and on the air offered to help in any way he could. Guess that isn't enough for some.

Eric Church is a good musician...but his stuff doesnt hit my wheelhouse. IF we wanted to do something...get a bunch of former players together, then a bunch of servicemen/women, then first responders.....Then ken Peacock....Then former NFL players....and have them do the intro that Sean Connery does....Rotate it between the chosen groups.

Good to know, I missed both being at the games.Saint3333 wrote:One of the hottest music professionals in the past five years came on the radio broadcast (vs. Clemson) and TV (vs. Howard) to spent time telling App nation how much he enjoyed his time in Boone and how special the place is to him and on the air offered to help in any way he could. He has a house in the area and buys out a suite every year at KBS to use once or twice at most. Only thing he hasn't done is hold a concert at KBS (still hold out hope for that). The guy has done his share for the school. Lay off.

Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
I'm not an Eric Church fan, but that's just my music preference.
There's a feeling, even among some in the Athletics Office, that he did something nice for App State (the 2013 Welcome To The Rock intro). Then the "ungrateful fans" rejected it, so we should be lucky he supports App after that.
We're fans and customers. If so many people hated the video so much, then that's just too bad. I sure liked some of the ideas I pitched to my bosses and tried to get on the market, but they didn't work for whatever reason. That's life.
My rant isn't directed so much at Eric, but at those who whitewash everything he does just because he's an App grad.

Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
I love Eric Church and his music. I was thrilled to see the new intro and likewise very pissed when so many people bitched and moaned about losing the Connery intro until we changed it back. Every App home game I've been to since I roll my eyes when the team comes out to that movie clip.
It's a Nick Cage movie from the 90s. It wasn't even that popular!

He's done the same kind of interviews and appearances for Carolina so we should feel special?

Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
I personally liked the intro video and thought it was a great idea the time. utilizing an alumni who was blowing up at that moment in country music. i think it just happened to come at a bad time. things were already contentious over the situation with Coach Moore and then add in the FBS move and then the fact that we were having a horrible year.
if that video was done this year instead of 2013, i doubt you would hear much complaining
even if EC doesn't carry the alumni banner like we would hope, we've still got Daniel Jeremiah who proudly displays his App pride while working for the network of the most powerful sports league in the USA

When I'm rich and famous I promise to plug Appalachian as much as I can.
Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
Kind of odd this conversation is taking place. Last year I put up a post suggesting we let Coach Moore do the introduction during his return to App. I went on to suggest others who could do the 'welcome to the rock" line. It was well received on the board. I sent the idea to those in charge of the game day atmospher. They said they liked the idea but as we all know no change was made. As for the Eric Church intro I liked it but I think it failed because he sort of stuttered out the word rock. It left the fan base not knowing when to start cheering. The new AD came by my tailgate spot a couple of games ago. I told him to get ride of Connery. He looked at me kind of odd. I went on to explain that I thought people related to the university should do the introduction. His words, "stay tuned".Rekdiver wrote:Eric Church is a good musician...but his stuff doesnt hit my wheelhouse. Re: Eric Church article from Forbes
Bottom line, Eric loves App and he will always will be a proud Alum. He and I grew up together and have remained close. Trust me, his love for UNC basketball stems from his childhood, but he has been a huge App supporter since he began here in 95'. I can assure you he follows every game and knows as much about the team as most diehard fans.
