Oh I know this, you know this everyone on this board knows this. But lets be honest most people do not follow app state the way we do, communication about this BYOB tailgate has not reached the students well. I stood up and asked my entire 3 pm class today if they knew about the tailgate...I was the only one who knew. I hope that my class is not representative of others but I am afraid it may..AppDawg wrote:Student tailgate with BYOB and concert is being set-up next to touchdown Yosef - starts at 4pm. We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Your not getting the point. Most of the students don't check appstatesports.com everyday. Most app students delete those emails that come form the university as we are flooded with many everyday. I know others have pointed this out before, but communication with students must improve.

Oh I certainly do get it. The other poster just said he had heard of it so I was posting the information.3rd wrote:Your not getting the point. There definitely needs to be better communication to the students that's been a long-standing problem.

I always felt more students need to be on the Cabin. Though it has improved from when I was a student and ran our site through the Delphi forums...shudder.

Basically all my friends are psyched out of their minds for this game, the last thing I'm worried about is student attendance. I haven't felt campus buzzing like this for a game since I've been here. Granted I'm only a sophomore but still. I haven't felt hype of anything close to this for a sporting event yet.

Not saying communication doesn't need improvement, but deleting emails because they get too many? I mean c'mon now. I can't delete my work email and use that excuse. It sounds like at least an attempt is being made with electronic communication.3rd wrote:Your not getting the point. Most of the students don't check appstatesports.com everyday. Seems like it would be helpful to give feedback to Athletics about more effective ways to reach out to students. Any thoughts?3rd wrote:Your not getting the point. About the student tailgate. The need to post it on social media (Twitter, instaG, Snapchat).

Yeah, don't complain about the lack of communication then say students delete emails because they get too many. How would they better communicate this information to students? Put a flyer on every dorm room and apartment in the city?

For those who still don't get it when App sends emails they send about 10 at a time, most kids delete them. When their primary form of communicating about this tailgate, and other activities, has been email and most students have 0 idea about it there is a problem. What don't you understand by that? and yes dorms, Sanford mall, both dinning halls, Library tables, bars, social media.dubs21 wrote:Yeah, don't complain about the lack of communication then say students delete emails because they get too many. Re: No excuses App Nation!
SGA, EmpowerYosef and the admin should have reached out to the Appalachian Family aka Yosef Club members and done something along the lines of "operation parking pass". OPP could have asked Yosef Club members to donate their parking passes to students and faculty to help alleviate some of the parking issues a Thursday night game brings. I know I would have no problem donating my Library parking pass for the greater good and to build good rapport amongst current faculty/students and alums. Remember, aren't we the App Family?3rd wrote:Many of the students I have talked to have no idea how they are going to get to campus, and where they are going to tailgate since the SGA is not giving out parking passes like they normally do. I graduated from the Appalachian State University and it taught me some wonderful life lessons such as how to prepare. We as humans have an uncanny ability to adapt. I would have no issue finding a parking alternative. Do something along the lines of, if you donate your pass you get a free ticket to park at the high school.
The approach being taken by some faculty and students through EY is beyond contradictory to me. They make the claim that athletics seems to be more important than academics yet they want to do a "walk-out" (during class time) to protest parking. It seems more divisive and counterproductive than trying to find a compromise or even asking for help from YC members. To me, this equates to:
athletics > academics < parking
Several students I've talked to now say they have a built in excuse for being absent or leaving early from their class to attend the protest when in actuality they will start their tailgating an additional hour earlier.

Re: No excuses App Nation!
This is exactly what I would have done. I would have gone even a step further and just sent a email to said professor to let them know I wouldn't even attend the class. My protest then would be that we are even holding class on such a glorious day for football.Several students I've talked to now say they have a built in excuse for being absent or leaving early from their class to attend the protest when in actuality they will start their tailgating an additional hour earlier.
