Back in May I posted ESPN's predictions and they had us playing ECU in the Cure Bowl --- glad we are being listed pre-season, it does show that we are making progress ---

Would just like to direct attention towards Clemson being in the playoff. In the "28 pt spread" thread a few of you are getting a little too big for your britches. They have talent and depth for days

I'm not sure why we'd go to Mobile while A-State goes to Orlando. Plus we play at USA just two weeks before the GoDaddy Bowl, so I'm not sure asking our biggest fans to make two trips to Mobile 14 days apart is the best idea.

As for Clemson in the playoff - yes they do have plenty of talent, but that's a clear outlier among preseason rankings for them. Most have them in the 11-20 range. Even CBS Sports, the same site where those forecasts are located, ranks them 16th in their preseason poll: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootbal ... l-rankings

I would not be surprised if this is the year the ACC is left out of the Playoff. The PAC12 top teams are better than either Clemson or FSU going into the season. . .

In our first year of eligibility, beggars cannot be choosers, but I’d much rather take a trip to Orlando and face a rebuilding ECU team, than return to Mobile. The selection team for the Cure Bowl will hopefully recognize how big a draw App State/ECU match-up would pull, even down in Florida.

Ahhhh polls and predictions...All intended to build hype for the season. I would much rather prefer a bowl game in Orlando because I feel it would attract more of our fan base, plus well....it's Orlando. What I dislike about the bowl bids is that we have a legitamate chance to go 11-1 (Clemson being the 1) and we will still be placed in a lower tier bowl.

Or am I wrong? I know if we go undefeated we would likely be in a BCS non-playoff bowl game. Is it possible for us to do better than the typical Sun Belt bowl games if we have a 11-1 season?

Unfortunately no. Outside of the BCS and New Year's Six, the rest of the bowls are locked in with contracts for the respective conferences. The Belk Bowl will always be ACC v. SEC, for example, even if we finished 11-1 and ECU finished 10-2 and our fan bases would fill BofA stadium to capacity (not that that would happen, but for suppositiion sake).

Until something breaks the stranglehold of big money on college football, our only hope at something better than s "Sun Belt" level bowl game is 12-0 and a New Year's Six, or changing conferences . . .

The weird thing is that the Cure Bowl gets fourth pick of the four Sun Belt bowls, despite having by far the biggest payout at $1.35 million (not to mention arguably the most attractive destination). The New Orleans Bowl still has first choice despite paying only $500,000.

Benson I believe said something to the effect that they'd work with the bowls to make sure everyone gets the most attractive draw, but in essence, if we're in Orlando, that means we got passed over by New Orleans, Mobile and Montgomery. Which I'm guessing would be just fine with App.

Very unlikely. See Marshall getting passed over last year in favor of 2-loss Boise.

These match ups make little sense just going by geography within the conference. I'd be shocked if we got to a bowl other than the Cure or Camellia. Assuming we get to a bowl that is. 8-)

As for Clemson, they are getting that slot based purely off of being the best or second best team in a down year for the ACC. Not sure if anyone saw this, but they just lost a LB for the year that was 1 of 4 returning starters on D. We are definitely the underdog but they aren't as good as they hype either.

To EastHall app and appstate grad 09...... is it possible to be in the Access Bowl... yes it is. I have long said that this is like our new "championship game"... probably not likey but should be the goal. Boise got that game b/c Marshall lost their last game. Marshall also had a very weak schedule last year. So the committee deferred to them with a 10-2 record. If we go 10-2 or 11-1 we will be in the discussion. This is also the reason why I would like us to play Boise. They are the perennial top G5 team... this is why we need to play them and beat them on the field.

Let's make two teams separated by 271 miles drive over 600 miles each to play...WHY? Because F-YOU it's a bowl game, that's why.

Well that, and they're not on the schedule. And I wouldn't exactly pencil ECU in for the Cure bowl, or us,for that matter.

Marshall was ranked behind Boise in the CFP poll even before they lost.

A 10-2 App team would receive less than zero consideration for the access bowl. 11-1 might at least get a look but it would still be a long shot IMO. Remember our schedule is considered one of the weakest in the country. Maybe if the loss were to someone besides Clemson...

Because Orlando is a slightly more popular late-December vacation spot than anywhere in NC. I kind of doubt many people involved with either program would complain about that destination. And they wouldn't be driving.

Hey EastHallapp.... I do agree that a 10-2 team will have less of a chance thane an 11-1 team. Strength of schedule certainly plays apart but ultimately the decision is by a committee. Boise does have a stronger schedule this season playing two P5 teams and MWC is considered stronger than the Belt. Although they (and us) still have to win. Although when you look at other potential teams like Cinc. Toledo and Marshall .... our schedules are more comparable. We just have to take care of our business first and then see what happens. It's still great to have this option as opposed to the FSC playoffs IMO.

I went to the 2012 Belk Bowl and the 2013 ACC Championship in Charlotte, and I can tell you that night games in Charlotte rival Boone for cold and wind. Would I rather go to Charlotte, or Atlanta? (I mean as long as we're having a pipe dream might as well include the Georgia Dome) Damn straight I would. Pipe dreams aside, given the options, Orlando is much better than Montgomery or Mobile, at least from a fan experience perspective.

God willing and the creek don’t rise, App has 8+ games to play before we can really seriously talk bowl bids, and that’s assuming we’re at least 7-1 or 6-2 after the first 8. Got to beat Howard first and foremost!

Southern Pigskin is picking Louisiana and Georgia Southern as the Sun Belt favorites.
Motivation!
