Boone weather forecast

Unread post by bigdaddyg » Wed Feb 25, 2015 11:11 am

Heading to Sugar Mt for some skiing this weekend. We had initially planned to come up tomorrow (though Sunday) and would have arrived by mid day tomorrow. Based on the weather forecast for Boone we are looking at leaving mid afternoon today. We have about a 4 hour drive to Sugar. Any locals on the board who can advise I would surely appreciate it. Should we be okay up until 7 or so. Vehicle not 4 wheel drive but tires are excellent.

Boone is expecting anywhere from 5 to 8 inches of snow tonight, so I'm not sure how much I'd recommend driving up in the morning. Getting from Boone to Highway 184 won't be an issue if you don't have 4WD, but getting off 105 going to Sugar will be. That road is never cleared very well and 4WD is almost a must-have, especially when you are going up any of those hills. Just the slightest layer of slush, snow, or ice will prove to be catastrophic.

Good luck and drive safe!

I know at some times, going up Sugar Mountain, that 4WD is required during snowstorms, as in they wont allow you to drive up. Good luck and be careful.

I'm patrolling at sugar this season. 105 is a priority for the dot. Food lion hill on 184 can get bad but the snow is suposed to stop in the morning so I imagine the roads will be clear. If your worried about getting into the resort just park at the lot near the road and the bus can take you in. It's going to be a good weekend :D
