Re: Preseason #54
I really don't think any of our opponents that we beat last year were overlooking us. By the time we got to Arkansas State, we already had three straight victories, including two blowouts. Plus, they were beating up on us pretty good before we took over. I can't imagine ULL was looking past us after beating stAte.

Didn't mean that all of them did - just suggesting if any did, they would not be doing it this year ---BurlingtonApp wrote:I really don't think any of our opponents that we beat last year were overlooking us. Well I would love to beat them but 1-11 would make me cry.TheMoody1 wrote:I'd take 1-11 if the win came at Clemson.

Re: Preseason #54
Obviously this is just a joke but a win over Clemson in conjunction with a a losing season would mean nothing to me. I used to be down on the Bowls (particularly the crappy ones) but now I find myself getting excited at the thought of watching game 13 in 2015 (maybe January 2016).TheMoody1 wrote:I'd take 1-11 if the win came at Clemson.

Watched App play Clemson way way back in the William Perry days. Thought it was an obnoxious bunch UNTIL years later went to USC for that game. My god, no comparison! Thought that the orange bunch living off of the NC Danny Ford team was bad. The garnet crowd in Columbia takes the cake for delusional. I will never forget the undercover cops that would not leave our few rows of App fans alone (among 70K plus). They were worried to death about the mini bottles we were trying to pass between us. Obviously we were the only people drinking in that entire stadium. Don't get me started on the USC faithful who wear their gear everywhere, especially at Myrtle Beach. Knock UNC all you want but you never see an ENTIRE family dressed in UNC shirts walking around a shopping center.

I'll take Clemson over South Carolina any day! I'm pretty familiar with both fan bases since I live in SC.TheMoody1 wrote:bcoach wrote:I worked for a guy in SC one time. That's a bit high. I would have thought we would be 70-80 coming in to the season.BUTCH1991 wrote:According to some ESPN calculation, we're #54 heading into the 2015 season.

The talk from others about us going to a "BCS" type Bowl like a Fiesta or Sugar or Orange as an 11-1 team is crazy and I do think 11-1 is too optimistic.
However, look at our schedule. We should expect no worse than 9-3 and 10-2 is what I personally think we should do. The only way we don't win 9-10 games is a slow start and the injury bug.
We have the tough Sun Belt teams at home and the only non conference games I could see us losing are ODU and Clemson. I expect a loss at Clemson, our shot at ODU is 50/50 (that game will require us to be well coached), and Georgia Southern is really the only team in the Sun Belt I look at and feel we probably don't beat. South Alabama loses Brandon Bridge and a ton of offensive weapons so our defense should hold them under 20. We have weapons on offense, the OL should be the best we have had in a while, and I expect Middleton and Blair to put up very good seasons. Middleton is going to be our best pro prospect and a potential draft pick. The defense should be top 3 in the Sun Belt. The new strength coach is getting this team right from what I'm hearing.
We have no business thinking we could be a top 25-45 team but with the Sun Belt being so bad and the improvements we have made. A 9-10 win season and being ranking in the top 70 should be expected. Even at 11-1 I would not rank us in the top 25 unless we only lose to Clemson by say 7-10 points and they prove to be a 10 win type team.

Now if I'm not mistaken this is a quote from AppState2014 from October from last year ---
"Scott, if you truly love App (which I believe you do) then you need to resign. You aren't ready for this job. I wish you well but it's time to go. This is not acceptable at Appalachian State."

Oh, I must have missed the deleted lines. But I was about to ask if his forecast meant that he'd be calling for Satt's head again if we go 8-4. But I decided to give him a break - new season and all. Well, almost...

Yep. He had a couple of other lines in parentheses about coaching not being like the start of the previous years and coaching dropping off. I saw them and brought them to WV's attention but they were removed before anyone else posted. I'm sure we'll see something soon saying they weren't there but they were. And we all know as long as you edit a post before anyone adds another post then it doesn't show up as edited. I've edited my post in the "Question for the mods" thread 3 times. Doesn't show anything.EastHallApp wrote:Oh, I must have missed the deleted lines. But I was about to ask if his forecast meant that he'd be calling for Satt's head again if we go 8-4. Re: Preseason #54
When App beat a ranked USC team in Columbia in 75, I remember taking a half gallon of Ole' Tequila into the game under my coat and never had a problem. Actually shared with some nearby Gamecocks (female of course). Had no problem other that walking back to the parking lot.bigdaddyg wrote:Watched App play Clemson way way back in the William Perry days. Re: Preseason #54
I love how you start off by saying people are crazy to think we can win 11, but then argue that anything less than 9 or even 10 wins is unacceptable. Also, if we go 10-2 with losses to Clemson and a top SB we would certainly be a top 45 team. Boise State lost 2 games last year (Ole Miss and Air Force) and went into the Fiesta Bowl as a top 25 team. The MWC is better than SB, but not THAT much better.AppState2014 wrote:That's a bit high.
