Re: Recruiting, 2015
I think we always had two or three guys that would be considered solid G5 players each class while we were FCS, the last two classes and this far this one just seem to have more of those caliber players. About three times as many. These guys seem to play at a level by their sophomore years that it may have taken former players their junior or senior year to achieve.
Can't wait to see this prior class if they continue to improve.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
He's listed on the 2016 Main Page with a player page and video highlights. He reported an offer a while ago but it appears it was just interest until now if the twitter post is correct. That's why I list offers as reported and only confirm commits.crossza wrote:According to his twitter, App has offered Richmond, TX DE/DT Sidney Murray.
Edit: He is in the class of 2016.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
We would get several 2 & 3-star players each year while in FCS, but now we're getting an entire class of rated players. In 2014 we had 10 3-Star players, 18 2-stars, and 0- unrated. In 2013 we had 4 3-star, 11 2-star, and 1 unrated player. In 2012 we had 2 3-star, 5 2-star, and 11 unrated. Now how good the star system is can be debated. For me the proof is in the 2 deep where you'll see a ton of Sophomores and Freshmen playing so it must be a pretty good indicator overall.crossza wrote:So as a new comer to App State football (been a fan for around 1.5 years), are the level of recruits we are getting now (75% most are 2 stars, 25% are 3 stars) unprecedented in ASU history? Were we getting guys like this when we were in FCS? Was a 2 star guy who we got when we were FCS a huge win for us and a 3 star equivalent to a 5 star at FBS level?
Re: Recruiting, 2015
to me, if you want to get an idea of how good a recruit is, look at our competition for his services, if we are getting players that have offers from P5 schools, or strong mid majors, then the odds are good he will be able to contribute.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
We have our next commit. DB/KR Mondo Williams (5′ 11″ 175) of Iowa City West High School/Iowa Western CC in Council Bluffs, IA has committed to App. I will be updating the Main Page and his player page in a few minutes. He had stated he was delaying his decision until after his weekend visit to NMSU but I saw him earlier posting to Dez Reed and it appeared he might be changing his date. This is a very big pickup for the staff as he was our top DB target. Another spot filled. Welcome to the Mountaineer Family Mr. Williams!!!

"Juice" had nine total tackles (including seven unassisted) in the JUCO national championship on Sunday.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
We have confirmed commit #14. ATH Khylil Miller (6′ 2″ 170) of North Davidson High School in Lexington, NC just announced on twitter he has committed today. The Rivals 2 star CB/WR/QB has committed to App over offers from Charleston Southern, East Carolina, Ga Sou, UNCC, and ODU. He's on the NC Shrine Bowl Roster where he will join App Commit OL Victor Johnson (SC Roster) in the game. Also he's good friends with App Commit LB Akeem Davis and has been to Boone several times on visits with him. I have moved him to the Commits section and have updated his player page.

As a West Forsyth grad, it pains me to say it but he looks good.

Awesome, love to see the commits rolling in, and I gather Miller had been a high priority for a while as well.
Moose, any guess as to what position he winds up at?

my guess is DB. we're going to have a surplus of WR the next few years, but we really need some CB depthEastHallApp wrote:Awesome, love to see the commits rolling in, and I gather Miller had been a high priority for a while as well.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Rivals.com lists Miller as a two-star.
247.com and Scout.com have him unranked for now.
After looking at his video, I'd say the recruiting services are missing the boat on this one.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
On the flip side they want to know where they are going to be going soon and maybe arrive in January so I'm not sure giving time is what they may want. Probably 50/50.mtnjax wrote:I actually hope that any coach who is worth their salt would wait a couple of weeks before trying to go that route. those kids had a pretty damn emotional weekAppdoggy wrote:Any word if we're going to pursue any UAB transfers?

Re: Recruiting, 2015
I agree defense seems most likely. Wondering if it will be corner or safety. Interesting that QB is also listed. I assume that's most unlikely, but you never know. Wonder what kind of arm he has?mtnjax wrote:my guess is DB. we're going to have a surplus of WR the next few years, but we really need some CB depthEastHallApp wrote:Awesome, love to see the commits rolling in, and I gather Miller had been a high priority for a while as well.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
He will not be a quarterback. He was the emergency quarterback in HS. I have seen Miller play about 4 times in the last two years. He will be a good use of a shirt. He needs to develop. Very good athlete. Needs to work a lot on his game for a CB and I think that's what will fit him best. Basically he has been able to get by because he is just a superior athlete to compared to the guys he's playing and he does lose focus occasionally. He is a great athlete and a good football player and I think he'll be a contributor at one point, sooner depending on how well he takes the coaching.EastHallApp wrote:I agree defense seems most likely.
