That's the 2014 recruiting class - theirs and ours have been well documented already.mountaineerman wrote:https://rivals.yahoo.com/BWI/football/r ... outhrn-175

We are ahead on verbals 8 to 5 against them 2015, not that it matters much right at the moment.

Re: GSU commit list
why are we getting our panties in a wad over the 2014 class? we brought in 4 OL last year, 3 of whom are 6'5 with lots of room to GROW. which with our new S&C program they should. Edge-Campbell already got over 300 lbs. in just a spring here and he should be our starting Center next year

Re: GSU commit list
Because people don't understand OL recruiting and development and automatically assume a 300 lb. HS linemen will be better than a 275 lb. one?mtnjax wrote:why are we getting our panties in a wad over the 2014 class? we brought in 4 OL last year, 3 of whom are 6'5 with lots of room to GROW. which with our new S&C program they should. Yep, and if I see a a recruit of ours who's alreay 300+ and 6'3" or greater, I wonder why the bigs aren't recruiting him.EastHallApp wrote:Because people don't understand OL recruiting and development and automatically assume a 300 lb. So I guess the 6-3 308 LB DT we have committed for next year meets your approval.

Re: GSU commit list
What FBS programs are they beating out for these recruits? A lot of those late signees for GS didn't have any other FBS offers and some of them never made it to campus.

Re: GSU commit list
IIRC, they signed nearly half the class within a span of just a few days. Many of the recruits added in that stretch had no other reported FBS offers and were not previously ranked by any of the major recruiting sites, but then several got 3* rankings from 247, which propelled Southern's class ranking from near the bottom of the Sun Belt to the top (until App added Barbour late, of course).Saint3333 wrote:What FBS programs are they beating out for these recruits? One thing I've wondered - anyone know how many of the jucos they signed are starting or in the 2 deep? I can't find their depth chart online to check.

found this GS depth chart on line. the copy and paste is a little busy but it is readable. If they don't truely have solid depth they may take a step back next year. Looks to me like offensive line is not our major area of concern. We seem to have some big boys in the wings and they should all get bigger and stronger by next summer. We need to go back to a 4-3 with Fernandez and the other biggun in the middle. We have some good young talent for the ends with experience returning. Linebackers look potentially strong next year with a few stud DB's also in the wings. I would personally love for us to pick up a big smash mouth running back for a change of pace and a bigger possession receiver. It goes without saying that we have to get a kicker.

Fritz having come from Sam Houston State in Texas certainly knows the area and would be expected to have some success with his HS contacts there.appbio91 wrote:Looks like they are hitting Texas pretty hard. The size of the footprint gets my attention more than the size of the OL recruits.

Re: GSU commit list
We are real pleased with our offensive line signees this past year, and very pleased with our recruiting commits to date so far this year. We've traditionally gone after kids in the 6'0-6'2 range who are 230 to 270 lbs and 'grow' them where we want them to be, as typically with our past blocking schemes it was rare for a kid to play for us a true freshman or sophomore. We're now looking at kids in the 6'3-6'6" range who are 280 and up, and most everyone we've signed is a relatively lean and agile body. Couldn't say that was the case from 2006-2009 with some of the heavier players we signed.
This year's success has been in part due to the senior laden offensive line and the wealth of starts amassed by them as a unit, however a lot of the guys on the second string have also seen a fair amount of playing time since some of those seniors were hurt last season. Many of those guys played as freshmen and sophomores when we transitioned back to the triple option blocking scheme. Our offensive line under Hatcher was relatively terrible. The biggest thing for us is getting into a couple of games the rest of the way where we can get that depth some experience as a unit.
We've redshirted all of our offensive linemen signees with the exception of Tommy Boynton, who is just playing special teams for now. We continue to sign offensive linemen out of programs we've established a history with, who have provided us excellent players in the past.
With Fritz coming on late in the recruiting season, he stuck on a few kids he had been working and the lineman out of Oklahoma was a steal. The Sooners wanted to grayshirt him, but we were able to close the deal and he's been redshirted as well.
I expect to see a slight dropoff in our early season results next year as we get our feet under us, but four or five games in I expect we'll be fine if not sooner.
