Not making fun of this kid at all..,.get that out first...
- don't think our defense can stop this kid at this point
- we bitch at each other on this board like we hate each other for their opinion, if it isn't like ours..
- we are ALL on the SAME TEAM here, except for trolls that stop by here and there..
We bitch about our football team, but App State's football team isn't really important when it comes to stuff like this video. We need to accept every day likes it's our last. Never know when it's your time. Enjoy this video, that everyone has seen several times, because there is a lot more in like than us bitching at each other on all of these threads,
Enjoy and bet you will have a tear roll down your face...

If you think anyone besides a few narcissistic people from our university invest a minute into this message board or actually make decisions on what is on this message board you are delusional at best.App74 wrote:Regarding looking for a kicker from the soccer team........Why would any 18-22 year old soccer player subject himself to the expectations, judgment, criticism and abuse from places like this message board??![]()
I suppose, perhaps, one would take such a novel approach in order to "give his all for Appalachian State".
Just wondering....
This is just a space for people to push hot air. Lately we need this place because the amount of hot air around the mountain might kill off the trees.

3 national championships......a tradition of winning for decades. Liberty had yet to make the playoffs.......ever.....A win over a top 5 BCS team(Michigan 2007). An SEC victory multiple wins over Wake in the ACC. Led FCS in attendance for what 4-5 straight years. All things on our resume and not on theirs. Please dont compare our body of work to a win over arguably the worst team in FBS.

Thanks for the reality check. The crybabies, idiots and trolls are having a meltdown and will not be deterred.

If somebody has to question why we got invited to the Sun Belt, they haven't been paying attention for the last 30 years.
Re: Top four reasons why people are SO upset
It is amazing how we react when our egos are bruised. Losing does that to us and for most of us it brings out the worst in us and accentuates our insecurities. We claim to be sad, disappointed, mad, and often term the situation as unacceptable. We no longer can brag about our own superiority because our team is a winner. Instead we have to find immediate blame and demand that "heads" roll at any cost so we may return to our rightful place in life of being associated with a winner. We hear it every year with some coach somewhere. A few names that come to mind over the years that fans wanted immediately fired are Dean Smith, Coach K, and most recently Ruffin McNeill at ECU to name a few.Thank goodness the administrations that employed these coaches just happened to have a little knowledge and had a deaf ear to the rants.
I was fortunate enough to be in Jim Brakefields first recruiting class at App. The time was very similar to today. App was moving from NAIA and playing the likes of Lenoir Rhyne, Catawba, Presbyterian, Western, Elon, etc.. and moved to NCAA Division 1 ( no such thing as 1AA then). We immediately started playing East Carolina, Richmond, William and Mary, Citadel, Furman, etc.. We also picked up Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Middle Tenn. and Tenn Tech. and even added the University of South Carolina on a yearly basis.
The players previously recruited for NAIA football were all great guys but we're generally smaller and slower than the new recruits coming in. It took four recruiting classes and patience from the Administration to get to the point that App defeated East Carolina, Wake Forest and The University of South Carolina all in the same year.
Most on this board would have called for Jim Brakefield to be fired in his second year as we lost to teams you would never suspect we would lose to.
I am sure many of you know more about football than I do. But I do beleive Scott is trying to do it right. It amazes me how close his plan appears to be what Brakefield did.
Even though we have had great teams at the FCS level we need to remember that all of those FCS All-Americans we have had, which were great players, would most likely only be All Conference, if that, at the FBS level. There is a talent difference and sacrifices have to be made if we want long term success or just instant gratification. I vote for long term success and I was fortunate to play for a man that had the courage and vision to lead us in that direction. I believe in Scott. He may not get us there but it will not be because he does not have the courage and vision. For that I applaud him and proud of him as a person and coach.

Re: Top four reasons why people are SO upset
Good analysis. The problem is we aren't even a good FCS team, much less FBS. The timing for a move could not have been any worse. This would be like App having an average NAIA team while moving up to D1 back then. I know it's tough, but let's be patient and see where we are after 3 more FBS recruiting years. Hopefully the way we're doing things will pay dividends.

Coco, you said: "I am sure many of you know more about football than I do"
If you played for Jim Brakefield, there won't be many if any on here who know more about football than you. Really enjoyed Coach's years at App. Thanks for sharing.

1) Because wins and losses aren't the only qualifiersNoLongerLurking wrote:6. If they don't belong in the Sun Belt, why do we?
2) The would be the only private school
3) There are currently better options than LU
4) The presidents of the other SBC schools believe we belong, but don't believe LU does.

Re: Top four reasons why people are SO upset
AppAttack, I wish your assumption that App was a good NAIA football team before moving to Division 1 was correct. However that is not the case. They fired the previous coach and staff because they were not winning at the NAIA level and brought Jim Brakefield in to right the ship and lead the move to Division 1. Coach Brakefield inherited very little except for players with a lot of heart. The players there had been recruited for an NAIA program and were generally smaller and slower than the new recruitss being brought in. Probably none of the NAIA players had received any offers from Division 1 schools cioming out of high school. The starting offinsive line my freshman year did not average much more than 200 pounds. By my senior year they averaged 250 pounds which was big for the 70's. We were a very dysfuntional team the first couple of years as new recruits took starting positions away from players who had been in the program for two, three or even four years. There was very little leadership from upper classmen because many were dissatisfied with losing starting roles. Some even left the program. The point is it takes a long time to turn a battleship and it also takes a while to turn a football team around aswell if the tallent is not already there. I remeber Coach Moore mentioning several times that Texas Tech, his alma mater, should have waited one more year before deciding to fire him. The next coach who came in the very next year took Coach Moores recruits and went to a bowl game. Unfortunately Scoot is not as fortunate as the coach who took Coach Moores place at Texas Tech.

Thanks for the history, as a "youngin" that's information that's not easily known. The only thing I'll point out is that Jerry Moore's alma mater is Baylor, but he did coach at Texas Tech.coco wrote:AppAttack, I wish your assumption that App was a good NAIA football team before moving to Division 1 was correct. Coco you are mostly right on the caliber of players Messer's last years, but some did have D1 offers and some of the skilled players actually got pro tryouts.
