Barbour has a lower body injury and don't think they will put the shirt from he or Meadors. He might be working with the team, but he won't be playing Saturday. From what I understand.

Bingo!Rick0714 wrote:To be fair to all involved, I will be very surprised to see Meadors on the field, this week or any other, this year. He was shirted for a variety of reasons but the one that I was told was the deciding factor was that he did not grasp the offense very well and he desperately needed conditioning. If what I was told is true, then I don't see both of those changing within 5 weeks and now you're burning a year for what purpose? To appease us? That's not very smart in the long run. I want to win each week as much as anyone, but is WR the problem? No doubt our WR play needs to improve, but on offense I think the OL and QB play needs more attention. Lamb has been overthrowing and no, its not that the WR is "too slow". Not in 15 years of coaching and many years of playing have I heard that excuse. That's why you practice, throw where your guys are supposed to be, not where a Deion Sanders would be. Yes, Tacoi has never been 100% healthy, but he is, by far, the fastest guy on the team, and he got overthrown (but our QB was on the move because of pressure). I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, because I'm far from it, but I have been in this game for a long long time, so here goes: Just because a highly-rated and athletic recruit signs with your team, it doesn't automatically make him "the answer". Some kids take a little longer than others. Some are in better shape. Some are a bit smarter. Some can't handle the transition academically. This is the same mentality that Pro fans have for "the back-up quarterback should be starting". MAYBE our best POTENTIAL players are on the bench, but I, for one, have seen nothing to make me think there is someone that will step in and change the season. Even if one guy can give us an entire extra win, does the difference between 3 and 4 wins make it worth it?
Just because a kids a 4 star doesn't mean he's grasped the playbook, that he doesn't have 12 MA's a practice or that he's ready to compete day 1! WR is more than catching the ball in this system - there are literally 6-7 potential reads depending on what the D is doing for 4 different WR positions - it’s a tough system to learn in 5-6 weeks and we don’t see what the coaches see on a daily basis.
The frosh I've seen look like they need a year in the new and greatly improved S&C program. Coach Stepp studies every minute of every practice and knows better than anyone who gives the team the best shot to win. Pulling the shirt for a player that might need more time develop physically and mentally and MAY be marginally better than what is on the field is not worth it.
Well said Rick!

I started this thread so I want to clarify my original statement:AppState89 wrote:Barbour has a lower body injury and don't think they will put the shirt from he or Meadors. He might be working with the team, but he won't be playing Saturday. From what I understand.
Meadors and Barbour will be DRESSING out. They have also been practicing with the offense and are no longer on scout team.
As many have pointed out, this does NOT mean they'll play. But by the nature of dressing out, the possibility of them seeing playing time is now real... which, sadly, is the most exciting news to come out of our WRs this season.
My personal hope is that they'll both see significant playing time along with Isaiah Lewis. There is NO indication they will play at this point.
If they're going to get their feet wet, this week is a perfect time to do it.

As much as I would like to see them, pulling the shirt halfway into the season just seems crazy to me. Anything can happen, but I hope they wait. If they do get the shirt pulled, I agree with you that I hope they get significant playing time and I mean a lot each game. Guess Sat knows what' s best.APPARJ wrote:I started this thread so I want to clarify my original statement:AppState89 wrote:Barbour has a lower body injury and don't think they will put the shirt from he or Meadors. Re: WR shakeup for Saturday
A possibility could be that Satt & Co. didn't anticipate our WR unit being such a detriment to our offense's success. Pulling a redshirt off almost halfway into the season is unfortunate but maybe they think it's necessary to get us in the freaking endzone.AppState89 wrote:As much as I would like to see them, pulling the shirt halfway into the season just seems crazy to me. If that's the case, I like the move regardless of it being halfway in the year. I just want some sparks at WR.

Re: WR shakeup for Saturday
After thinking about your post there, I have changed my mind. What we got out there now just sucks. I think we need a spark at WR. It's been hard to watch this year. I still think Simms is the best we have out there at this point. The kid can catch anything. Reminds me of Cline and the other kid we had in 2005.APPARJ wrote:A possibility could be that Satt & Co. didn't anticipate our WR unit being such a detriment to our offense's success. We sure need someone at WR to get some separation without having to chance sticking their arm out and getting a penalty instead of a long pass. Give us some sort of hope Satt.

You don't need hope, you need faith. Have some faith in the coaches. They see what you see and alot more from these kids day in and day out. We don't have coaches out there to collect a paycheck. SS is a former player and alum here and he wants to win more than anyone on this message board and he has a plan to get us there. It's not an overnight fix. Bash Charlie Cobb all you want but he played football and was a lineman at that so I am sure he saw what was going on with the product the last few years. I would bet that each coach interviewed the head coach was asked for a vision and plan to get us competitive. Scott is not making this up as he goes along and may have expected this could happen. I know your old and you think that we will never win again in your lifetime but all of this win now bulls&*t is getting tiresome.GoApps70 wrote:We sure need someone at WR to get some separation without having to chance sticking their arm out and getting a penalty instead of a long pass. Re: WR shakeup for Saturday
agree everything you said about SS. One big advantage about him is he truly loves the school, and wants to make it his home for a long time. If he turns this around, and starts winning big time, he isn't going to leave for the first job offered to him, and I doubt he would leave for another mid major school. I don't think you could say the same for the GS coach, no ties to the school, first chance he gets, he is out the door

Re: WR shakeup for Saturday
Very true. A couple of basketball schools down the road east of us talked about running off their first time head coaches early on in their careers because they didn't win immediately. I think that worked out pretty well for both schools.moehler wrote:agree everything you said about SS. Everyone wants to succeed and has good intentions, but they dont always work. No saying this is the case with Satterfield, but with no previous head coaching experience to prove his methods are successful, we can only speculate if these ideas will pan out

I'm 59 now, thus, I guess under your defination I'm old too. However, given my family history, I should have another 30 years or so left. Hopefully we will be back on track by then. Anyway, another thing that is getting tiresome is this acceptance of continual lackluster performance. I'm not saying we should be "burning down the house" right now, but, the current trend is not acceptable.AppSt94 wrote:I know your old and you think that we will never win again in your lifetime but all of this win now bulls&*t is getting tiresome.

Re: WR shakeup for Saturday
From my point view we we have accepted this lackluster performance for many years. Yes we had winning records up until last year but the losses each year steadily climbed and no one was calling for us to sacrifice JM to the coaching gods. Quite the contrary, people were quite upset when his contract was not renewed because he had winning records. I don't think that anyone not clamoring to "win now" is accepting of the performance rather have an opinion that this will take time and are willing to let the process mature to gain a true perspective of where we are.WataugaMan wrote:I'm 59 now, thus, I guess under your defination I'm old too. I apologize if the "old" comment offended you or anyone else. It was intended to speak to 70's crotchety demeanor and not his physical age. I have no idea how old he is. I hope that you get to see those 30 or so more years and you can enjoy App football for as long as you live.

Re: WR shakeup for Saturday
I agree when you say that if the shirts are pulled they better play. If one/both are put out there and stay healthy from here out and we look back and see 17 targets (or another random fairly low number) then the move would seem to be wasted. Then again, I see the benefit in a player really seeing "game speed" but I don't know about the expense it would take in the essential loss of a full-time playing year.AppState89 wrote:As much as I would like to see them, pulling the shirt halfway into the season just seems crazy to me. Re: WR shakeup for Saturday
Very true but I don't think that he has been given the chance by some on this board. Let me use your plan to become a millionaire, because it is a very good example. I financial planner sits down with you and lay out a long term plan to get you to your goals. Now you can accept this plan and you are willing to let it play out. If your account starts to lose money then you aren't going to be happy about it and you may pull your money out and seek a new plan from someone else. However, if the advisor had told you that there is additional risk up front to lose money but that in the long term you will recoup your losses and increase your portfolio then you might stick with the plan a little longer. My point is this, do any of us know what SS five year plan is to turn this thing around is? If we don't then why are we assuming the worse. If he had stood up and told the members of this board that it would get worse before it gets better then would there be so much impatience. The Rock wrote:I have a plan to become a millionaire. Cobb saw what was going on last summer, too, even with Darcie and company. If you noticed, he booked as soon as he could. He had been trying as soon as he stepped out of his car the first day he arrived in Boone, so to speak. Apparently you missed virtually thousands of posts on this and the old MMB by numerous posters who wanted JM out as long as 10 years plus ago.

I know where your loyalties are when it comes to JM and CC. I am not trying to get into a pissing contest with you over it. I respect your opinions on each. All I am trying to say is that there seems to be more finger pointing and fire and brimstone attitude now that the record is below 500 than when the records were trending that way.NewApp wrote:
